Of course it is a snub and a rather obvious one at that.  It would take very little effort to make the bowl open to all Texas 1a schools and then truely support the title of the Texas Bowl.

We have a lot of people who like to fault the Belt for NT's problems.  Where would NT be without the Belt?  Do you really think NT would be better off losing more money in the WAC or as an independent?  The Belt is the newest and logically the worst 1a football conference.  There is not a team in the Belt that does not want to be in a better conference.  However, damning the Belt is not going to accomplish anything, the objective has got to be to improve the program and thus enhance any further opportunities.

Not sure if that was made in response to my post but I'll assume that it was. Just for the record, I think the SBC is the best thing that's happened to NT since we rejoined the D-1 ranks. You're right, without the SBC, our last bowl appearance would still be the Salad Bowl in '48. The WAC would be terrible for NT and I'd personally prefer the SBC over the MAC as well. And I wouldn't even trade places with Utah State or NMSU.

My point was that every member of the SBC needs to start picking up some OOC victories before the SBC will get any respect and consideration for other bowl tie-ins. We're just as guilty, if not more, than our conference mates. Like it or not, we're going to be measured by who we play and who we beat from other conferences, not our SBC opponents.

Also, I may be wrong, but I didn't get the impression they named the Bowl the Texas Bowl in an attempt to create a "Texas title game". For the Texas state high school championships, yes, but for Texas universities?? You can almost rest assured that the best college team in Texas will NOT be playing in the Texas Bowl. Here's what the article said about the thought process behind the name:

"The name 'Texas Bowl' and this mark perfectly communicate our vision for the game," Lone Star Sports and Entertainment president Jamey Rootes said, "which is to create an annual celebration of the culture, heritage and football tradition of the Lone Star State."
