Cobbs' big night the talk of practice

DENTON – The big game former UNT running back Patrick Cobbs had with the New England Patriots in a loss to the Atlanta Falcons was the hot topic at the Mean Green's practices Saturday.

Cobbs caught a 57-yard touchdown pass and finished with three catches for 80 yards to go along with 25 yards rushing Friday night. UNT's career rushing leader signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent.

UNT coach Darrell Dickey told his players about Cobbs' work ethic and how it helped him earn a shot with the Patriots.

"Those are things that help our program," Dickey said of Cobbs' televised performance. "I think they said the words 'North Texas' about 12-15 times in the second half."

Briefly ...

Sophomore fullback Ryan Davenport missed practice Saturday with an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his knee. Davenport went down in a one-on-one tackling drill Friday. The severity of the injury and how long Davenport will be out have yet to be determined. ... Junior college transfer Brian Carlson has made a move to tackle after working at tackle and tight end in practice. ... Freshman tight end Victor Gill caught touchdown passes during drills in the morning and afternoon practices. Dickey said he has been impressed with Gill.

Gill is out of argyle...I used to work with some of the high school kids down in argyle and victor is a class act good guy...the kid is pretty ridiculous on the basketball court too....real strong and good size two years ago...no telling what he is lookin like now....
