I lived in College Inn. And did I ever have fun!!!!

Don't tear it down....Don't tear it down...

I was a "charter resident" of College Inn in the fall of 1964 and the back portion was added in the fall of 1965. Considering how inexpensively it was to build I am surprised it is still around and the last time I walked throught it (on the surface) it looked pretty good considering it has housed 40 years of students. I loved the place with the outside doors which was quieter and air-conditioned (none of the others were in 1964 unless perhaps some girls one was. [no coed dorms them. The CI was all male then].

--It may be time for it to go but i have a lot of fond memories there and will hate to see it disappear. I really like that style of dorm without a loud central hall and a degree of privacy.

You make several good points. Many students like the quieter college feel, and want the freedom that the CI setup provides. However, this freedom is not appropriate for freshmen. They need that central area to force them to meet people and get involved. Speaking from experience, if I hadn't had a good place to meet people, I'd have been depressed my entire first year, and would have had an entirely different college experience.

Currently, CI houses mostly upper classmen, as does Mozart Square and Santa Fe. The other residence halls have a more traditional feel, and cater to our very large freshman population.

However, in the last few years, there have been security problems with CI. The very nature of the building and the lack of traffic in that area of the campus (especially late at night) lends itself to security issues. So although it's sad to lose the memories, to avoid the negative publicity associated with security breaches (and the obvious tramatic experiences of the students), I think it's time for CI to go.

How long has Crumley been all girl?

5 or 6 years. I remember there was a big stink about Maple going coed. The problem was that there weren't enough girls that wanted to stay in Maple given the size of the dorm.
