something realy stuck with me, at the end of the video the reporter said "who would of thought from a small school like that"! mad.gif

We will continue to be thought of as small school (not in size, but stature) until we beat some big time schools. dry.gif

It's so sad...but that video makes me nostalgic for 2004..."The Old Jamario"...as if it was so long ago. If Jamario plays as well as he did in 2004, if his physical gifts are back there's no reason why North Texas can't win the Belt and win at least the SMU game. If those gifts aren't back though...it could again be a long season.

You know I really think he meant small as in size - not stature. Not to say we don't also have a crappy rep as a football powerhouse, yadda yadda... But I really think there is still the perception that UNT is a smallish school in size comparitive to SHSU or SFA. Seriouslly, I get that feeling that not many in the metroplex have realized that UNT is up over 30,000 students now.

That's more than likely it. When I tell people NT has over 31K in population they are taken completely by surprise. It's because you just never hear about NT on the scale of the old SWC schools. Many are just as shocked that TxStSM has over 25K.

Go to the mall and look at the sports gear that is being supplied on the shelves. It's as if EVERYONE in the merchandising business thinks all college students in Texas go to two schools, A&M or tU. It's sickening. And 80 is right on. The perception will never change until we beat some better known programs and do it on a consistent basis. It's happened before. In '88 no one was calling us a small school but rather a football program with an up and down past that is "Now on the rise" and it was being thrown around about us finally getting into the SWC at some time in the future. Same as in '02 and '03. After that whipping of Baylor and later on that season whenever football came up in a conversation people had taken notice and wanted to know "What's going on up in Denton?". There were were no sarcastic comments about commuter school crap, or questions about "Are y'all Division 1?". Winning heals a lot of this.

Isn't UNT one of the big 5 schools (by enrollment) in the state now?

You'd think the URCM would let people know about that, but then again, I see billboards for bloody Midwestern State on I35E and nothing for UNT. Sad.

Not sure where UNT enrollment is ranked in the state.

It's true...UNT is no longer the "little bitty comuter school" it was when I went. Time for the Administration to stop thinking like a comuter school. I would think everyone else (Alumni, students, staff) has already thinking like a big school.

I believe we are #4 in total enrollment (some numbers only show undergrad numbers).

1. UT

2. A$M

3. UHouston

4. NT

Though for years people have been saying we will pass Houston in the near future.

Houston and NT fight for 3rd every year. We are far from being a "small" school

Meanwhile, back on topic...

The one shoed run is probably my favorite play of all time. An amazing run at a critical juncture of the ball game.

That was a great play. We saw the shoe go off from way over in our seats in lower section C.

My favorite is still his first touchdown against Colorado. Was that his first carry of the day? I just remember being so down after Andrew Smith died, we got smoked by UT 65-0, Cobbs was out, and Kevin Moore (good backup at the time) mysteriously didn't make the trip to Boulder. It looked like the season was gone, and out of nowhere this freshman rips the Buffs a new one. When he broke into the open field, it was like all the NT fans at Riprock's suddenly got an adrenalin shot.

Everytime I see it I get pumped about watching him again this season when he is healthy. That was an amazing accomplishment, and he really had people talking not only locally, but nationally. It was no joke to anyone either, because even if we were playing "lower" competition in conference, no one could argue against the teams he was able gain his yards playing. It will be a whole lot of fun to watch this season and I hope he returns to the days of old.
