As most of you probably know, the NY Giants start their camp this week, once again at UAlbany. The practices begin on Friday.

If you want to check the local daily newspaper coverage, the Albany Times Union online site is www.timesunion.com (actually, there is a second daily newspaper here, the Daily Gazette of Schenectady, but its online version is for subscribers only, so I'll pass along anything that appears in the printed version, which I will check regularly). I know we all send our strongest support out for Adrian Awasom.

Geez, if you are going to say something at least know what you are talking about. The TIMES UNION is the main paper for the area, period. The Daily Gazette is more on the level of the Lewisville Leader.

The TIMES UNION is a better paper than the Dallas Morning News. They also do a great job keeping up with the Giants.

I will be in the Albany area this week catching the first week of the Saratoga Thoroughbred Meet. I plan on catching the Giants camp sometime this week. Hopefully I will see Awasom and yell Mean Green at him! haha.

Since I've been in journalism for 40 years and teaching it for over two decades, including 22 years in Albany, I do know what I'm talking about. Don't look at just circulation. The Daily Gazette is the second major paper in the Capital Region, covering the same broad area as the TU but with a more focused and better edited effort in all of its sections, and its sports pages often give a concise, better reported, more balanced coverage of local sports. There are much smaller, weaker dailies here I did not even mention in my previous post because they are not considered on a par with the TU and DG -- ones in Troy, Saratoga, Hudson, and Amsterdam, for example. To say that the TU is better than the DMN is a farce, at best.

I disagree, however I doubt I am going to change your mind.

Experience doesn't always mean "I know it all."

It's not like the newspaper business is that complex. It's like saying you know more about blowing gum bubbles than I do because you have been doing it much longer.

Why does everybody take every difference of opinion as a personal insult. I would think that somebody with all of that grand experience would have less ego problems.

The DMN isn't as good as the TU. The DMN used to be a great paper, but it sure isn't any more. Then again, just a different opinion, and not at all farcical. When was the last time you picked up a TU anyway?

The papers in Troy and Saratoga that you talk about are absolute rags. Probably some of the worst I have ever seen. They both have a habit of publishing financial information, which simply isn't anybodies business.

Well, I just disagree with you both because I heard that those two papers smell. The paper you really need to read is the Pleasantville Primrose of Jasper, Alabama. This paper incites the reader to really become active in the community, almost to the point of upchuck. Just last week a blackout there hit locally and it caused the whole city to plunge into darkness. Soon afterwards, a mad dash to the news stands ensued where several on rushers were trampled. They are just hooked I tell ya, on this readers delight.

The expertly crafted way they say "touchdown, well ...I just can't put it into words. Tears well up on the very thought of their use of the words, "dunk shot", "triple crown", or the most requested, "hat trick".
