3. North Texas- This is the wild card team of the Sun Belt. A potent offense with nine returning starters including RB Jamario Thomas and WR Johhny Quinn. Thomas was anything but spectacular in his sophomore year after taking the nation by storm with over 1800yds in 2004. Look for Quinn to finally meet his potential with a break-out season. The defense will need to improve the pass rush to keep conference QB's in check. If all things click, the "Mean Green" could win the conference again. Look for a possible upset over Tulsa on Sept. 16th.

I love the optimism we are getting in the press. The wild-card for our team is still at the QB position. I think the prognosticators at PP are off a bit on the 6-6, but I have us 8-4 and winning the conference. I see losses at UT, Tulsa, Akron, and Ark. State. (I hope I'm wrong about Akron, but OOC games are just not predictable wins right now)

I'll take 8-4 and a trip to the Bowl. We had a blast there last year and our team wasnt even in it.. Making it back now would be sweet! With exception to a few (yes LoveMG, I include you here) I think most of us would be happy with a conference title and N.O. bowl bid.

This may have been posted, but CBS Sportsline mag has UNT picked to finish 2nd in the SBC, and a generally positive write up, as well.

There's a lot riding on the performance of the QB, but when we had Scott Hall, he was a big part of how the offense did- even when the ball wasn't in his hands. I think someone referred to him as a "field general". Even if the starting QB doesn't get to pass often (like Hall), it's still important for him to exercise the same leadership Hall had.

      Mountain West looking to add NIU/Toledo

      When CUSA last imploded both schools were invited to join the MAC as a package. WKU was all in, MTSU was not so they were both stuck in CUSA. N. Illinois , certainly much to my surprise, is moving to the MWC , who might be in the market for another football only school. The MAC bylaws require their members to place all their sports in the conference so unless they are changed N.Illinois must find a new home for their 'others." U.Mass is rejoining the MAC so they probably will stand pat. I think the N.Illinois victory over the Fighting Irish may have gone to their head plus their fans are tired of weeknight games that make it hard to attend for those who live out of town.

      A Volleyball Coach To Consider??

      Hodge has us more than middle of the road in the AAC. We are definitely in the top 3. If it was not for a bad shooting night for our two top scorers against Memphis, we would be at the top.

      Who did better? PAC 12 or Mountain West?

      I can't disagree with anything you're saying if ACC comes poaching and we're sitting here with Rice, Tulsa, and ULM/LAT as our most local conference peers. If that is the case, and it's a somewhat likely scenario, we need to be looking into the PAC as a viable option and not hush-hush turning them down. If anything, we probably should be lifting our skirt a little bit to keep it open as an option.

      Power Conferences making their move to take full control

      Seems the b10/sec are so worried about making sure they generate the absolute most revenue versus their peers that they’ve lost sight of what excites people about college sports in the first place. Until one of them relents and settles for setting caps in spending, and potentially sharing revenue, I don’t see how this changes. I think that the power brokers believe that most current fans will just adopt their local big state or closest big brand and continue to follow college sports. Time will tell if they are right. For me, I will not. If it gets to the point where UNT no longer has a chance to be in the pool, my interest will evaporate overnight. Maybe they don’t care and assume that enough will that they’ll keep growing their own brands and revenues.

      ‘26 S Ricky Giles - SOC

      Appreciate the insight and agree about how we pick our HS recruits. the potential upside is that he apparently has a Purdue offer, so a solid Power gig thinks highly enough of him, too, to bring him in.
