109. North Texas North Texas Preview

Predicted Finish: 4-8 2005 Predicted Finish: 7-4 2005 Record: 2-9

After owning the Sun Belt for several years with trip after trip to the New Orleans Bowl, North Texas found out what it's like to be on the other side of things finishing dead-last in the conference. Considering the team was at or near the bottom in just about every major statistical category and loses only nine lettermen off of last year's team, there's reason to believe a turnaround can be just as quick as a fall from grace.

Relative Strengths: running backs, linebackers Relative Weaknesses: secondary, quarterback

I love the assumption that none of our younger guys will step-up and contribute better than some of the seniors who left. also the QB's should better than last year. Think we will be closer to .500, maybe more with certain coaching changes.

CFN was wrong last year, they'll be wrong again (this time, in positive fashion) this year. The 'Belt got more competitive last year, tied with OL and QB issues and you have last season. But the truth is, many of the losses in the conference were by less than 10 points. A few more connected passes and a few more run stops and we would've had last season.

If you read the offense preview there is a good line

"Completing more deep passes would be a big help."

We have been saying that for how many years of Dickey ball?

CFN will be right if Meager is the QB and they will be wrong if Phillips is the QB.

They also said a few lines about how the season was decided by a total of 22 points. Thats...what, 3TDs and 4 PATs...too close of a margin to not come back.

But look how many points (and turnover extravaganzas) away we were from being winless.

I hate the look how close we were argument - you either do it or you don't. Last year we didn't - hopefully this year we will.

It lets you know how tenuous the grasp on victory can be, for or against you. It would make you practice and play harder, I'd think.

If you're going to consider how close we were in conference games, also consider this.....if we had scored 12 less points, we could have been winless and that's never happened in the history of North Texas football.
