Hi JohnDenver,

The TD in the middle was not a bad call IMO, both feet were in.

Your right, both of his feet were easily in, and by all standards it was a fantastic bit of concentration by Cash to pay mind where he was to make sure both feet were in bounds..........The problem is, he's bobbling the ball the whole time, never maintains control of it while his feet were in bounds and ends up losing it over into the crowd. It's easily a TD if he has control of the ball, but he never did even though the zebra has perfect position to see it.

Gruu, that sideline shot of the final Cash TD was a fantastic angle and your camera guy deserves the props for getting it like he did.

Hi JohnDenver,

I'm the UT fan who put the clip on the UT board and I wanted to ask where did you get your dvd copy?  Your version has the sideline shots which show the fumble and the last TD which I agree was a bad call. The TD in the middle was not a bad call IMO, both feet were in.

I attended the 1988 UNT-UT game as a student and we all felt UNT was robbed.

great video JD... also, fyi, I met the real JohnDenver once in a CA hotel lobby...

I got the video from this site five years ago. I had saved off a copy to my HD for such cases when this was talked about again. gruu, as it turns out, was the one who knows of (or did himself) the actual shooting from the sideline.

The TD in the middle is a terrible call. The ball went through his bread basket and out the bottom of his arms way before he even hit the ground. His feet were in, but the official made the signal of TD before he even made sure he had the ball. It was clearly out... the ref had his hands up way before the play even ended.

Seems the next morning Keith (or was it Kerry) Cash was quoted in the Austin-American Statesman of his deserving an "oscar" for his "performance" the night before.

I rode the elevator with Corkey Nelson (it was Corkey, wasn't it ?) the morning of that game in the team hotel. He was confident that we would win.

As good a memory as that is, I'm trying to live in the now.

I just think we all remember a grossly underfunded, no facility, little A D program that still managed to instill pride in the players when they played OOC games. They even talked with and appreciated the students and fans. Maybe we just got spoiled to coaches who weren't afraid to commnicate !!! wink.gif

Ok, I watched this game again last night... every 160 minutes of it... a great game to watch. I watched the Texas Tech game too... Now, what did I do with the Rice game tape from 1988?

I will transfer the 1988 Texas "a crime in Austin" game from HSE to DVD and ya'll can let me know who all wants a copy. I'll see if I can also put copies of the pressbox angle and sideline angles of the three plays on the end of the disc too. The HSE camera angles are not as good as the ones I shot in the pressbox along with Ken's sideline shot.

Just PM me.

Watched it last night! Great job, gruu.

UNT thoughts:

1. UNT played smart, and were VERY well-coached. Very good, attacking game plan.

2. QB played lights-out.

3. Line play was lights-out. Over their head play. Incredible.

4. UNT was playing a 230 lb NOSE TACKLE?? Wow.

Texas thoughts:

1. Metcalf WAS their offense.

2. Underachievers.

3. Outcoached.

Thoughts on the "plays":

Fumble: Bad call.

1st "TD": To me, this was borderline. I can see that call *not* being overturned if it happened today, but UNT certainly has a beef.

2nd "TD": Bad call.

BTW, quotes like the one below are what Horns are beginning to say about the game in Sept.:

"You can bet that the coaches at UNT will have their kids ready to play. They may get their hats handed to them and probably will, but they will give us a game effort. Play hard, fight the battle, and win, but give them the respect they are due."

Many thanks gruu.

I thought the same thing as long jim. Metcalf was every play, it was a little too predictable, almost like some other team that i've watched over the last year...

The defense was AGGRESSIVE. They were causing some trouble at every position on the field. That was fun to watch.

Some of my thoughts.

One of the best games, preparation wise, that I've ever seen North Texas play.

North Texas was outweighed by Texas, but there was not ONE player on that North Texas team that was the least bit intimidated by the Texas team.

Every North Texas player that stepped out on that field was both eager and ready to knock the crap out of anyone wearing orange....and they often did. That night, they were truely the MEAN GREEN.

Clearly, every North Texas player and coach was wearing their "I DIDN'T COME HERE TO LOSE" t-shirt under their uniforms.

This game should be shown to every North Texas team at the beginning of fall practice to illustrate the intensity with which they should play each game.

Ah, Marcus Camper. The wideout Johnny Quinn most reminds me of. Throw it up and they would both go get it.

The main thing I remember from that game was please put one, two, three spies, whatever it takes on Metcalf. Even with the refs Texas would have lost that game without him. We had no answer.

Actually (IMHO) we had plenty of answers for him (our swarming defense). We just didn't anticipate that the Texas QB was so "mobile" and would make some big plays with his feet.

To me, (other than the referee's gifts) the big plays that their QB made in the second half was the difference.
