Amost June...I'm getting really excited

Recommended Posts

This will be the year we go down to Austin and take care of business (and I do not mean somewhere in the middle of Sixth Street).

Really, though, Coach Dickey has not distinguished himself during his two coaching trips to Austin. However, this time it's gonna be soooooo different. Why, you ask, football breath? Because Coach Dickey wants this game more than you can even imagine. Win vs Texas and no one can ever complain again about not winning OOC. He will be enshrined in that hallowed hall called the NT Football Hall of Fame. He may even be considered for College Football's Hall of Fame.

He did beat Texas Tech in 1999 after losing to LSU, 0-52. I have always like Coach Dickey. I heard he even is thinking about joining the Hair Club for Men, but they told him they could only go so far. One thing also is sure...he will coach the Mean Green to a victory over the SMusless Mustangs, September 9th at Fouts Field.

Shock value noted... As much as I wish you were right, even Coach Dickey knows the real deal. He said specifically that he could beat UT in Austin and we would throw a ticker-tape parade on Fry Street for the coaches and team.... then lose against SMU at Fouts and everyone would again want the coaches shot! I laughed at that, but I think he is probably right. If some fans have turned on him after four straight trips to New Orleans... then only one losing season?, I thnk we can safely say the UT game doesnt matter as much to the fans as the SMU game here. We all know that and so does Coach Dickey. I promise you he wants to win them both, but he also knows we stand a better chance against S&MU. That doesnt mean he wont game-plan for the win in Austin, but Jamario will have to pull a "Colorado Game" for us to have a chance.

I do like the optimism. As for me, I would love a 10 win season, but I will take an SMU win and a few days in Harrah's New Orleans!!! (Which just re-opened by the way)

GMG!!!

What I'd actually like to see is bodybag games removed from this record as a point of reference... If we remove all losses to top 5 teams what is the record? huh.gif

I can't tell you about losses to top 5 teams; that's only a handful. But, here is the final record of all of the teams that we lost to during Dickey's tenure:

12-2 1

11-1 1

11-2 3

11-3 2

10-2 1

10-3 1

9-2 1

9-3 1

9-4 3

8-3 1

8-4 1

8-5 2

7-4 2

7-5 4

7-6 1

6-6 1

5-6 3

4-7 1

4-8 1

3-8 4

2-9 1

1-10 1

Of the 5 non-conference Division 1-A wins:

7-7 1

6-5 1

6-6 1

3-9 1

1-10 1

Admittedly, we have played some very tough teams. There are 11 games that we lost to less than .500 though, and with all of our conference championships, you'd think that we could've won at least half of that number. Our only win over a better-than-.500 team was over 6-5 Texas Tech.

Although it wasn't asked for, here are the season records of the conference teams that we beat:

10-3 1

8-3 1

7-5 1

6-5 1

6-6 1

6-7 1

5-6 5

5-7 2

4-7 3

4-8 3

3-8 4

3-9 5

2-9 2

2-10 1

1-10 1

1-11 1

We dominated a league whose teams average about four wins a year. We have won five games in the last six years over a team whose season record was above .500.
