New Mac TV Ads

I've been seeing the new run of Mac ads lately...and as someone that's used both Macs and PCs, the ads aren't that great, with one being basically wrong. The one that basically says that Macs don't have to restart is utter nonsense. I've had Macs at work (brand new and previously run) lock-up, crash, and just go nuts. As for the other ads, they're pretty close to correct, but I don't know if they're effective or not. Are they aiming at PC owners? If so, then they're taking a big risk by taking a shot at them.

Frankly, I would've done something more direct.

As a former Dell employee, and current Dell devotee, I have always been skeptical of Macs...however, the new ads have at least got me thinking...

Most of the claims are correct, really. Granted that some of them are a result of the Mac's software architecture and popularity (virus issue, for example)...but the univeral connectivity isn't entirely accurate and the crash/reboot issue is DEFINITELY false.

Besides, the performance of a PC is really more in the hands of the user. If you allow pop-ups, don't maintain the machine (and with System Mechanic or something, it does it on its own), and open random emails, you're bound to get foul-ups.

At this point, I just own a PC. I'll buy a Mac, but it'll be more for work. I'll have my PC for everything else. Frankly, the two are basically equal to me.

Man... do you really use both? I use many PC's and Mac's every day... and the Mac's just gennerally work... very few crashes and stupid errors and such,... the Mac usually just kick ass all day... they need very little attention... Mac's do crash... just not all of the time...the PC's are constantly a problem...

I own a PC, use MACs at work.

The funny thing about PC and Mac crashes and errors is that to my experience, PCs (especially those that don't get a lot of maintenance) have errors fairly often. Macs don't have errors as often, but when they do, it's a sure sign that the drive is about to go.

Little story:

I worked at a magazine in Dallas awhile back, they were running a Mac G4 on OS/X Jaguar, it was only a year or so old, used only for magazine work. At home, I had a 5-year old PC running on WIN98SE that I'd used for everything from PC gaming to writing papers. While I had a good number of BSODs on my PC, they were nothing bad. But when the Mac at work started to bug up, it preceeded the Mac's harddrive failure. At a newspaper I worked at last summer, they had an iMac (where the whole computer is in the flat-panel monitor) and that poor thing's hardrive cooked itself, and before that, the CD/DVD drive didn't function properly. This was also just used to for newspaper work and wasn't that old, running OS/X Jag as well. It turned out that that model's hardrive had a failure rate of 30%.

I hated Win98 with a passion. I got XP the day it came out. Damn OS had more memory holes then swiss cheese.
