Overcoming the separation from her family was the largest challenge Koubiteb had to face last year. After arriving at Midland College later than expected, she was not allowed to play until the spring semester. And play she did. Lyza played nearly 16 minutes per game last year and averaged six rebounds in her 16-game season. She has increased her fitness level and will likely lead the team in rebounding this season. Her overall game has improved and she is eager to show what she can do this season.

Lyza’s interests include basketball, music, movies and dancing. She lists Titanic and The Matrix as her favorite movies. When she watches television, its usually basketball games, music videos and news. Her favorite type of music includes “slow jams” in both French and English as well as soul music. Her future plans include becoming a professional basketball player. Her favorite team and player are the Los Angeles Lakers and Kobe Bryant. Lyza’s career highlight was winning the Cameroonian National Championships. Nicknamed "Z".
