[6'2" 290lbs is a decent size for a "non-BCS rolleyes.gif " guard or center.

What the heck is a "non-BCS" guard or center ?

All 1A teams are BCS schools, so I assume you are talking about schools in the lower division. Well teams in the SWAC, a predominately black 1AA Conference normally have larger players than most 1A schools and USC had a lineup of relative lightweight players when compared to most 1A (and thus BCS) teams.

It seems to me that Carlin came from either Tyler or Kilgore and was the best quarterback from a Juco that I can recall.

I don't remember all of those who were JC transfers but of those that I believe were, how about these......Cedric Hardman, John Baker, Johnny Mata, Mike Davis, and Barry Moore?  All were either All-America or All-Conference.  Moore even had a few more yards than John Love, and he did it with Ron Shanklin on the other side.  I might even throw in Sears Woods, who although he only stayed one year, was instrumental in our greatest victory.

But, then again, it would be hard to choose against John Love.

I forgot about Rex Johnson. He was a JUCO transfer (originally from Electra) and he was Kodak 1st team All-American in 1988.

Corky sure knew how to assess talent. cool.gif

It seems like you can't trust any teams published ht. and wt. on players anymore. I visited the Bengals summer camp last year and found the same to be true for the pros.

Does anybody have any idea exactly why Mr. Stanley left the team; and was it his idea, the coaches, or by mutual agreement? dry.gif

Isn't this the guy we battled with La Tech over and supposedly came out on top? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else, but what a waste. Hopefully he finds what he's looking for (and we do too).

I bet we could find a late term Juco to come in here and take over Stanley's ship. biggrin.gif

I know a highly skilled, motivated and large (6'7" x 340lb) late term JUCO OL player who could be a productive part of the Mean Green team. He is finishing up his academic requirements now so he can report to wherever for the beginning of fall practices. As a bonus, he is a 4 for 3 transfer... biggrin.gif

I hope they kept him on their radar ...

JUCO OL - James Maddox, 6'7" - 340 lb - from the 2004 Juco National Champions College of the Canyons in Southern California. May still be available, tripped Louisville last week. Converted from DL is a bada$$ OL, very agressive.

I just referenced the preseason starters when I used them as an example:

C Ryan Kalil 6’4 275

RG Fred Matua Jr 6’2 305

LG Jeff Byers 6’3 275

RT Winston Justice 6’6 300

LT Sam Baker 6’5 290

Did not follow them so do not know who actually played. Also noted that they were not very big the year before in the NC game.
