If you win Lotto Texas, or Mega Millions...

Recommended Posts

While we're dreaming of a brand new "House that Hayden Built" (Yes, Virginia, I know I'm gonna catch hell for this thought), and suppose you checked the numbers on your lotto ticket, and by God, you WON (Yea, or as Plum says, Hells Bells)...do you immediately call Rick V and say, "Hey, Rick, can we have lunch today...I want to drop off a check for the new stadium for $50 Million." Rick V says, "Uh, let me look at my schedule, here....uh-oh, can we make lunch next Friday?"

All this is ridiculous speculation....but I wouldn't want anyone here to think I had suddenly come to my senses!

Go! Mean Green!!!

I have contemplated this myself, a number of times. The percentage would probably go up the more I won. I think it would go something like this.

Lottery winnings Donation to stadium fund

$1M $15K

$10M $600K

$30M $3.5M

$50M $7.5M

If my donation was in the multi-million dollar category, I'd insist on some major input on the design of the stadium.

I would be inclined to take the "payments" option. I would then look into how I could donate the portion that would have gone to taxes (about 1/3rd) to the stadium fund as a charitable contribution.

I don't know if you can do that or not. I know hardly anything about tax law. But if you could, then 1/3rd of your winnings would then go to the stadium fund instead of the feds.
