Former DB returns to North Texas

12:23 AM CDT on Tuesday, April 4, 2006

From Staff Reports

Former UNT defensive back Ramone Archie has returned to his alma mater as running backs coach.

Archie played at UNT from 1998 to '99 and has spent the last four years as an assistant at Denton Ryan.

****************************************************************

According to a google search he graduated from NT in 2000 with a degree in History. , came to NT after one year at Glendalee CC in California recruited by Simon and played but played 3 yrs at NT as a DB under Dickey. He spent two years at a middle school in Denton teaching special education math after he graduated, then went to Denton Ryan HS where he is a JV coach and a varsity assistant. He is listed as a 2 time all conference DB but looking at the NT FB media guide I don't find him so listed.

At least he is a NT graduate. Hopefully he might influence some Denton Ryan players to stay at home.

I have never heard of this coach.

Guess $$$ was an issue again so expect to hear something from DD.

Also how do you coach RB's if you played DB? Did he coach RB's at Ryan?

Coaches move around to different positions all the time. Remember this guy?

When he was at North Texas he was the OC.

Coach Archie played RB for at least one year at NT. That means that he probably played it most of his HS career.

Sounds like we went out and found a young guy who wants to coach. He started at the very bottom and is working his way up. He has actual experience coaching, plus has some knowledge of the regional high school scene. And that is NOT the players as they come and go every year. Rather, he knows the regional coaches which is who you need to know to help with recruiting.

All positives.

Yep. At this point, I have to consider it a smart hire. He was a solid player who understood the game. I'm hoping it helps us do some recruiting in our own back yard as well. Only time will tell.

If Coach Archie coaches in the same intense manner that he played for our program, then we are going to see an improvement at the RB position.

Ramone Archie (#25 on your program) was a hard runner, and as a Safety was a hard hitter. wink.gif
