Jonesing for some serious evaluation. What gives with some people saying IEANs looks to be #2 when the paper doesn't even offer hint of stats etc on his game play?

Hows the D looking?

If Ieans had been making these kinds of plays all through spring ball, then we could count him as a legitimate contender for the starting job. All he bought himself, from where I sit, is the attention of coaches for the fall. If he started something now that he keeps consistent at the very least, and never again dips below what we saw of him at the Green/White game, he'll have a chance. Now, if he continues making the same strides between last week and the green/white game from now until two a days, we might need to take this more seriously. For now, though (with apologies to Emmitt):

1) Matt Phillips

2) Woody Wilson -or- Daniel Meager

On the menu coming up:

1) Projected two deep from Harry and myself

2) Player by player analysis

3) Point/Counterpoint on key topics relating to the spring and the upcoming season

All of this will take into account what we saw at the Green/White game, as well as the whole of spring ball. If you guys have specific questions, I'd be more than happy to weigh in on what I saw.

I'm proud of JI for hanging in there these past two seasons. No one has given him much credit for his play at QB. But I'll give him his props. He knows he's caught up in a numbers game. But instead of getting down on himself or the team he seems to have hung in there, taken the criticisms, constructive or not, and tried his best and last night it paid off for him. That shows true spirit and I like it. He's a good kid and I'm proud of him.

Well said, Rick.

Indeed, I think in a way I would consider him the most improved (or Isaac Thomas). He has started coming along and it's good to see him make some nice throws and not have a run first mentality...

No one has given him much credit for his play at QB because it's been consistently terrible, up until now. So I guess it depends on what you mean by credit.

Now, he DOES deserve a lot of credit for hanging in there. That says a lot about his character. It's unfortunate for him that it took so long for the light to come on, if it has, indeed. He might've had the position all to himself by now. Still, if he outperforms, I've got no problem with him being appropriately placed on the depth chart. We've still got nothing but question marks at the position anyway, to be perfectly honest.

What I meant by "credit" is that I choose not to dog him on his play as that's been done enough already. He's showing me a lot of character and heart despite the lack of playing time and it seems to be paying off now.

But is it realistic to be taking time away from the other "probable" starters and main backups in the practice game situations? Don't they need the practice time more? Do we really need a 4th string QB at this level?

Not sure? Last Thursday night he wasn't 4th, he was 3rd filling in behind Phillips and Wilson and did fairly well.

Items one and two are in to Harry for review. Item three might be a mid-offseason release, just so there's something to look forward to in the vast wasteland of NT football the next four months...
