DENTON (3/9/06) - It was an aerial attack that sparked the Green team to a 38-14 win over the white team in the annual Green-White game, marking the end of spring practice for the North Texas football team. Sophomore quarterback Matt Phillips looked to be in mid-season form, throwing for 242 yards and three touchdowns on 11-of-18 passing to lead the green team. Senior wide outs Johnny Quinn and Joel Nwigwe were the chief targets for Phillips, combining for 12 catches and 248 yards.

The Green team jumped out to a 24-0 halftime lead which was highlighted by 33-yard touchdown pass from Quinn to Nwigwe on a double pass. Phillips also had a 4-yard touchdown pass to Quinn in the first half and redshirt freshman Evan Robertson had a 3-yard touchdown run.

The White team finally got untracked in the third quarter when junior college transfer quarterback Woody Wilson hooked up with senior wide receiver Zach Muzzy for a 41-yard touchdown pass. The White team also added a 1-yard touchdown run from walk-on running back Joshua Maldonado in the third quarter.

In all, the Green team scored on its first six possessions of the game which helped it to a 38-14 lead at the end of the third quarter. Not until Phillips threw an interception to Desmond Chatman in the fourth quarter did the Green offense stall.

The Green defense also looked impressive, with junior safety Aarron Weathers intercepting a pass and returning it 48 yards deep into opposition territory. Senior linebacker Phillip Graves and sophomore defensive lineman Issac Thomas also had notable performances.

The white team offense was led by Deavin Cox who rushed seven times for 36 yards. Wide receiver Brandon Jackson helped the White team passing attack with four catches for 120 yards. Wilson finished the game with completing seven of his 15 passes for 165 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Junior running back Jamario Thomas saw limited action for the Green team, carrying the ball four times for 25 yards. Robertson led the Green in rushing with 52 yards and one touchdown on 14 carries. Quinn finished with seven catches for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Nwigwe had five catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns also. Backup quarterback Jonathan Ieans completed four of his five pass attempts for 34 yards.
