There are some pretty good Mid-Major BB programs in the NCAA this year.

Unfortunately, none are in the SBC.

I say the Zags will advance further than any other Mid-Major.

I also predict that Univ. Southern Alabama will lose in the first round.

stepping out on a limb there, huh? laugh.gif

I like UAB to be a suprise team, and LSU could go deep (though they arent a mid major program, they might screw up your brackets)

Don't everyone go too far out on a limb and predict that a top 5 team will advance further than a bunch of 10+ seeds laugh.gif

Gonzaga is no longer a mid-major. They are a major college basketball program, and have been for a few years now.

I think Gonzaga will go the furthest too..and I agree they are no longer a mid-major program. Morrison is a great all around player...he can post, shoot the three, drive, and pull up....unlike Reddick who is mainly only a threat from the three....

When is the last time a SBC team made it past the 1st round? WKU has lost in the first round for the last 2 years that I know of. Since no other SBC teams will get invited to the NCAAs, I doubt the trend will change.

I don't see Gonzaga going past the first weekend for a couple of reason. First, if they get tired, their talent level drops temendously, just look at their tournament as an example. Also, if Batista doesn't get fully recovered, other teams can dominate them on the inside. The Zags will probably be a 2/3 seed, meaning that they will have to face a 6/7 seed provided there aren't any upsets. Those teams will more than likely come out of the BCS conferences and I wouldn't be shocked to see them lose to someone from the Big East or Big Ten. Just my two cents....Southern Illinois, UW-Milwaukee....I would choose one of those two teams as the ones to advance the farthest.

I don't share the distain for South Alabama. These guys really get into your face and run a sound offense and defense. Don't count them out just yet. I cannot remember their depth situation, but that will be a factor. Point of fact....UNC Charlotte out of the SunBelt made it to the final game in the 70's ( As my poor memory serves me). The 49ers were a charter member of the SunBelt.

I would agree on South Alabama. You have to remember they beat a very very good Houston team this season. Yes they had a few bad losses, but look at the beating they put on WKU at the tourney finals and WKU had one of the nations best backcourts according to ESPN. This is a team very capable of beating top teams in the nation when they play their game. I don't know who they play in the first round or where they are seeded, but if its favorable look for them to get atleast to the 2nd round.

I like USA's chances to at least play a tough first game also. A WHOLE lot of that will depend on who they play in the first round. They really seem to play well as a team, and they have excellent defensive intensity. Gonzaga is good, but the three times that I recall seeing them play, they didn't seem all that impressive. Morrison can shoot, but his overall game seemed a bit off when I saw him a couple of weeks ago.
