UNT players make basketball all-conference teams

UNT's Davis conference newcomer of the year

DENTON – Junior guard Kendrick Davis was named the Sun Belt Conference's newcomer of the year and to the all-conference men's basketball second team.

Davis, who transferred from Arkansas, ranked sixth in the league with 17 points a game.

Western Kentucky's Anthony Winchester was named the player of the year, and Yemi Nicholson of Denver was the defensive player of the year. South Alabama's John Pelphrey is coach of the year.

UNT's Bobo, Ajekwu named all-conference

DENTON – Senior guard Erika Bobo and junior center Mia Ajekwu were named to the All-Sun Belt Conference women's basketball team.

Bobo was a second-team selection, and Ajekwu was a third-team pick. Both averaged 10.5 points a game while leading the Mean Green to the Sun Belt Conference West Division title.

Chrissy Givens of Middle Tennessee was named player of the year and defensive player of the year. Western Kentucky's Mary Taylor-Cowles is coach of the year.
