The Spring Game would be a great time to throw a mini MEAN GREEN village and get everyone around the North Texas area excited about the upcoming MEAN GREEN football season. Have a bar-b-que... bring back beerman... and push season tickets. This is such a wasted opportunity.

Bingo, such a wasted opportunity to sell the program. Instead we have a spring game the Thursday before spring break, where students don't care, alums have to truck up here right after work, and it's pretty much the scrimmage.

Actually, it's not a spring game.

Way back when, it was a spring game. At one time, it was the alumni vs. varsity. Then it was 1st team offense and 2nd and 3rd team defense vs. 1st team defense and 2nd and 3rd team offense in an actual game. Now, it's a situational scrimmage.

To me, the simulated game conditions are just not the same as playing an actual game.

The alumni vs varsity spring game in the late 60's was my only opportunity to see Abner Haynes play in person. I believe that it was at that same spring game that I first saw Steve Ramsey and Ronnie Shanklin.

I think that Corky Nelson put on the last alumni vs varsity spring game.
