NORTH TEXAS POSTGAME NOTES

UTPA’s 45 points were the fewest points by a Division I NT opponent since the 41 scored by Sam Houston State on 2-7-94.

The 39-point margin of victory is the largest against a Division I opponent in school history. The previous record was 38 against (119-81) Nevada on 2-25-99.

Justin Barnett set a new season high with 8 rebounds and led the team on the boards for the second time this season.

This year’s NT team moved into the No. 2 spot on the school’s single-season blocked shots record list, finishing with nine vs. UTPA and running the season total to 125.

Calvin Watson, with three made three-pointers, moved into the No. 8 spot for career three-point field goals with 106. Watson scored in double figures (11 points) for a season-high third consecutive game.

UTPA’s 21 first-half points are the second fewest points NT has held an opponent to in the opening half this season.

Lionel Brown had a new season and career high in steals with five.

North Texas finished with 13 steals and has now recorded double-figure steals in 11 games this season.

Jeffrey Simpson, with 14 points, scored in double figures for the 12th time this season.

Kendrick Davis, with 12 points, scored in double figures for the 20th time and now has 400 points this season to make him the 30th player in school history to achieve the feat in a single season.

Isaac Hines, with 13 points, scored in double figures for the ninth time and the seventh time in the last 12 games.

North Texas picked up its 11th home victory of the season, the third most ever at the Super Pit.

North Texas won its eighth non-conference game, tying the most in the last 23 years. The Mean Green also had eight non-conference wins last year.

With one more victory, North Texas can assure itself at least a .500 or better record for the third time in the last five seasons.

With the victory, North Texas has won 24 of 29 home games against non-conference opponents under head coach Johnny Jones for an .828 winning percentage.

Jeffrey Simpson finished the game with five blocks, marking the sixth time in his career he has blocked at least five shots in a game . . . that is the most times it has been done in school history.

North Texas made a season-high 50 percent (9-of-18) of its three-point field goal attempts.

North Texas outrebounded its opponent for the sixth time in the last eight games, pulling down 45 boards in comparison to UTPA’s 30.

NT’s bench outscored UTPA’s 29-12, marking the 16th time in 24 games it has scored more points than the opponent’s reserves.

North Texas scored at least 80 points in a game for the 12th time in 24 games this season, the most since it did so in 18 games during the 1991-92 season.

The Mean Green is now 11-1 this year when and 34-7 (.829 winning percentage) all-time under head coach Johnny Jones when it scores 80 or more points in a game.

North Texas outscored its opponent in the second half for the 13th time this year.

North Texas had four players score in double figures and has now had four or more players do so 11 times this year.
