Kendrick Davis became the 30th player in school history to surpass 400 points in a season.

DENTON (2/15/06) -- The North Texas men’s basketball team broke a five-game losing streak and concluded its home schedule in style with an 84-45 win over Texas-Pan American at the Super Pit Wednesday night. It was the final home game for Mean Green seniors Justin Barnett, Isaac Hines and Jeffery Simpson who combined to score 32 of the Mean Green’s 84 points.

“This was a good night for us,” said North Texas head coach Johnny Jones. ”It was important to see our shots start to go down, particularly from the three-point line. We shot the ball well and I was glad to see the team play well on both ends of the floor.”

Sparked by hot shooting in the first half, North Texas (13-11, 5-7) jumped out to a 22-4 lead only five minutes into the contest. The Mean Green shot 70 percent from three point land in the first half (7-of-10), helping it take a 47-21 lead into the locker room at the intermission. Texas-Pan American (7-20) shot only 28 percent from the field in the first half, making 7-of-25 attempts.

North Texas emptied the bench in the second half, but the Mean Green was still able to build on the lead. Led by the trio of seniors in addition to juniors Kendrick Davis and Calvin Watson, the win was the largest margin of victory ever by North Texas over a division I opponent. The 45 points allowed was also the fewest allowed over a division I opponent since 1994.

Simpson (14) and Hines (13) led North Texas in scoring while Barnett led the team in rebounds with a season-high eight. Point guard Lionel Brown had a career-high five steals to lead the Mean Green defense. Texas-Pan American center Colin Lien led all scorers with 16 points.

The win was a final tune-up for North Texas, which concludes the season with three Sun Belt Conference road games at Denver, Troy and South Alabama. North Texas then travels to the Sun Belt tournament in Murfreesboro, Tenn., March 3-7.

Well, it's good the seniors won their last home game. But judging by the lack of attention here we've pretty much written off the season. We'll need to really pull ourselves together to compete in the conference tourney.
