UTA Unveils New Logo

You guys need to get a great president, because this is all-important.  A good one can take a university to new heights, while a bad or mediocre one will hinder just about everything.

Thanks for the update/info. Good luck to UTA on the Special Events Center. Maybe then UTA/UNT can renew their basketball rivalry.

UNT has had a great President in Dr. Pohl who is very pro-athletics but he is leaving soon. I'm concerned about the next guy being as supportive. Our Chancellor seems aloof to me and I'm not sure about his desire to see new heights in much of anything for UNT.

Hey, we got it done without a logogate, a micro-managing chancellor, or a lot or acrimony and harsh feelings, too!  Now, keep your eyes open for advertising in the DFW and Houston markets!

I could have sworn that your president or someone(Chancelor maybe?) took the tuition increase that the students voted for to start up a new football program and instead decided to direct that towards the new basketball gym. Is that correct?

Nope. That approved fee increase will not go into effect until we get "athletics expansion" which is football and two women's sports. President Spaniolo thinks it's easier to raise $40 million for an arena than to raise $2 million for football.

Also, I have a few points on which I differ with the previous UTA poster:

BTW, red has never been a university color. I believe the athletic department - on their own - has used it as a highlight color. That's what athletic departments do if they are not supervised or given direction.

Go_UTA is wrong on this point. The UT Board of Regents gave written approval in 1972 for UTA athletic teams to use Blue, White and Red. That from the lips of our AD, who would be surprised to hear that the UTA athletic department was allegedly unsupervised and disoriented.

His opinion about the timing of "when football" is just that. (and everybody has one) It is more likely that the football push will begin as soon as the first shovel hits the dirt for the new arena. I can't tell you who said it, but he is a university official who should know.

Spaniolo has committed to re-examine the question "within five years" of his decision of January, 2005. So sometime within the next 47 months, the issue will be raised. I talked to him myself, and in my opinion, the big question is whether or not he will settle for 1-AA. If he gets his arena (and Go_UTA was right about us being more than half way there, fundwise) I think Spaniolo will want us to go 1A.

Won't that blue A look good on the helmets?

I was at UTA for a graduation last May and the campus was nice. My Sister did her grad work there so that was my second visit to UTA.

I never associated the Mavericks with red, even athletically. I always remembered them blue and white. The new logo is sharp and professional.

I differ with some posters on the orange. I like it! I think the orange trim makes the logo look similar to UTEP which I like. I think the Miners sport some cool gear and use the pic effectively in their marketing efforts. The blue orange combo is not really present in the North Texas area so I say go for it!

Okay, I will take my fellow UTA poster's word about the regents okaying red trim on uniforms at one time. In fact, that makes sense that they would have okayed it, whether they actually knew it or not. Not much happens on campus without at least formal approval from the regents. Every faculty appointment, catalog change, crossed T or dotted i, gets handed to the regents in a big report for their approval.

Regardless, red as a trim color on uniforms is out the door.

Any disagreements with my fellow UTA poster are more about ranking priorities than overall direction or goals.

And, thank you NM Green for your kind remarks! BTW, I am really impressed with some of the work that has been done on your campus, too. Looks like a great place to go to school. I'm just ready to kick some NT tail in men's b-ball! Come-on guys, we need to get this going again, as the rivalry was great!

I know, everybody is a logo expert. Personally, I think I have a real eye for it. wink.gif

All I can say is that it tested well, particularly amongst students but also among outside people.

Freak, I kinda like the corporate-looking logo that showed up in today's Shorthorn as an early example of what they considered. But, heck, I've been in the corporate world too long. I can't trust myself as being representative of John Q. Public or a student on these matters.

I'm not crazy about the UTA logo. However, I think the blue and orange color scheme works well. I like the Denver Broncos' look. In my opinion, there's not many teams in the NCAA with a better color scheme, logo, stadium, and overall look than the Virginia Cavaliers.
