UNT’s Dickey returns to office after surgery

North Texas head football coach Darrell Dickey returned to the Mean Green’s offices on Wednesday for the first time since he had his gallbladder removed on Saturday morning.

UNT officials said Dickey, 46, stayed for only a few hours and returned home to continue his recovery. Dickey fell ill at the end of the Mean Green’s third weekend of official visits on Jan. 29 and was admitted to Presbyterian Hospital of Denton.

Dickey remained in the hospital two days, but was released in time to speak on Feb. 1 at the Mean Green’s National Signing Day press conference. Doctors later determined that Dickey needed to have his gallbladder removed.

Dickey completed his eighth season at UNT in November. The Mean Green are scheduled to start spring practice on Monday.
