DENTON (2/8/06) – In the final home game of her career, senior Erika Bobo tied a career high with 23 points to lead the North Texas women’s basketball team to a 69-64 victory against Middle Tennessee on Wednesday night in the Super Pit.

The Mean Green (17-6, 7-4 Sun Belt) defeated the Blue Raiders for the first time since 2002. NT remains in first place in the West Division of the Sun Belt, while Middle Tennessee falls to 14-8 and 7-2 in the conference.

Bobo scored nine points and recorded three steals in the opening five minutes of the game to help the Mean Green jump out ahead, 13-4. In the final four minutes of the game, Bobo scored six points and forced three steals to seal the win for the Mean Green.

The Blue Raiders led by as many as nine points, 55-46, in the second half, before the Mean Green scored 15 unanswered points to take a six-point lead, 61-55 with 4:00 left in the game. It was the Mean Green’s first lead of the second half.

The Blue Raiders kept the game close, cutting the lead to one point, twice, in the final two minutes. Bobo forced a key steal and made the ensuing layup to put North Texas ahead by three, 65-62, with 1:00 on the clock, and then Mia Ajekwu pulled down a defensive rebound in the final seconds after MT missed two baskets on its last possession.

The Mean Green turned over the ball five times in those last two minutes. North Texas committed 27 turnovers in the game, a season high.

North Texas shot a season-best 58.3 percent from the field. The last time the Mean Green shot the ball that well was in 2001 when it beat Middle Tennessee.

The Mean Green led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but Middle Tennessee fought back and entered half ahead by two, 31-29.

Freshman Sanetra Jackson joined Bobo in double figures with 11 points, tying a personal best.

North Texas takes to the road for the remainder of the season, starting with Western Kentucky on Saturday at 2 pm.

Big game Saturday afternoon for the ladies as they travel to Bowling Green, KY to take on Western Kentucky. WKU is a top 20 RPI team right now, and has been receiving votes in the polls off and on through the season.

sorry but apparently Big Game and UNT are oxymorons since we never show to compete in these games, look UT game, ULL game. etc...

After watching this game on line, the only thing i can assess from this team is that we can't handle full court pressure. They threw it at us all night long and when we did break it, we scored quick, but more often than not, they got the better of us. We tried a press and it was laughingly bad. I mean BAD. The play of the night was Bobo picking the pocket of the MTSU player late in the game and taking it to the basket for an easy layup. (I think it was Bobo.) It was so pretty, and it sealed the win for us.

I'm looking forward to the men's game tonight.

Since we've got no chance, should we just forfeit & save travel expenses? blink.gif

PS: The girls did show up in Lafayette as they beat ULL 70-47 on the Lady Cajuns home court. cool.gif

um no the did not in the rematch against ULL they lost at the PIT when they could have secured first place with some distance, see 2/2/06.

Hey if you want them to forfeit so be it, I could care less but look at the track record of most of the UNT teams who clam up in the Big Games (i.e Women's Rematch at home v. ULL and the Soccer Team rematch with SMU at NCAA's or the football team against OOC teams and 3/4 of the New Orleans bowls).

You didn't say rematch, you just said ULL cool.gif They may lose but I don't think it's as 100% hopeless as your post seemed to indicate cool.gif Have a nice day!

We must be reading different forums b/c I do not recall saying it was hopeless, I forgot posting some actual facts on here is not good for the Mean Green Ego, but then again when we get stuck with coaches who coach not to lose, then we will continually lose the Big Games b/c the other teams usually come out to win the game.
