UNT Mean Green2005 Record: 2-9, 2-5 Sun Belt

Players signed: 18

S-T State Top 100 Signees: 0

Offense UNT landed a quarterback who might be the opening-day starter over incumbents Daniel Meager and Matt Phillips. An offensive line that went only seven-deep adds three to the mix. Coaches are still searching for a running back.

Key player: QB Woody Wilson

Defense The Mean Green had only 17 sacks last season, and opponents averaged 4.8 yards per carry. UNT countered that by signing nine linemen. Two defensive backs were added to complement a secondary-heavy 2005 class.

Key player: DT Tim Patton

Athletic ability Line-heavy classes aren't the quickest and nimblest. This group, though, isn't without athletes. Among them: an all-state sprinter, two all-district basketball players, an all-district baseball player and a top performer at the Fort Worth Nike camp last summer.

Key player: LB/S Craig Robertson

Meeting needs Three problems areas from last season were addressed. Signees should push for starting roles at quarterback, cornerback and on the defensive line. Four junior-college additions add experience to a team that had only 10 seniors last season.

Key player: CB Roy Loren

Immediate impact Three of the four junior-college transfers should play immediately in the fall. Freshmen traditionally contribute for the Mean Green, and a few from this class should, too, on the defensive line and on special teams.

Key player: QB Woody Wilson
