A summary:

RANK -- TEAM -- GAMES -- AVERAGE

Sun Belt:

90. TROY 5 19425

93. ARKANSAS ST 6 18381

95. UL LAF 5 17591

97. NORTH TEXAS 5 16446

105. UL MONROE 5 14617

106. MTSU 5 14526

F_U are "Reclassifying teams", their numbers are not provided with the rest.

Area Schools similar in stature:

44. UTEP 6 47899

50. OKLAHOMA ST 6 44861

63. BAYLOR 5 38899

74. TCU 5 31254

83. TULSA 5 22826

92. SMU 6 18630

98. LOUISIANA TECH 5 16416

103. HOUSTON 6 15054

114. RICE 5 10072

So, not a horrible year for us, given the record. Big showing out of UTEP (easy when you own the market) and Rice should be on life support.

Well we didnt win a single game at home, so I cant say I am suprised that we had poor attendance. we should average more than 20k next year. The SMU game alone should pack fouts. I expect La Tech to draw a large crowd as well.

Winning would help, but thats a given. Attendance also increases as you play teams people recognize.

I think Houston and Rice (and to some extent, SMU) actually have it worse than us. They are right in the middle of a major city that has several competing venues right down the street. Thats never easy. At least we are 40 miles away from the metroplex. And worse, Rice and SMU have much lower student enrollment than NT or UH. The only thing they (C-USA schools) have over us is the fact that they play schools people in Texas have actually heard of.

---Rice is beating a dead horse..... Their attendence average is double their enrollment. They had a bad year but I doubt they will ever get to respectable numbers because of the lack of alumni or enrollment. I suspect that one of these years they wil realize they can not afford to remain in D-I football or perhaps not in football at all.

It should be interesting to see what Major Applewhite and the new head coach from Tulsa are able to do there at Rice. At least one thing is for sure they will install a more exciting offense there at Rice, heck anything has to be more exciting then the run-run-run wishbone offense.

The most interesting one to me is always Tulsa. Their undergrad enrollment is only about 2,500. And, their stadium is barely better than high school grade...although it lacks the crickets and track that screw up Fouts. Yet, when they win, people show up.

There is something about Tulsa, though. Most TU grads grew up in Tulsa and stayed in Tulsa after graduating. That's different than Denton.

Now, UNT should be able to draw from the DFW alumni base. Currently, though, I don't thing it's doing a great job of it. Although, it's worlds better than when I was at UNT and we were a losing I-AA team. As our facilities improve, we'll see bigger crowds.
