I wouldn't call them mixed at all. Ben Bell is leading Region 14 in assists with 7.9 per game. In fact, he is in the top 30 in the USA with assist average among JC's.

Although I don't have the current stats on Muse, he was doing well with rebounds and blocks, two areas we need improving.

The last I did see, Muse was ranked second in Region 16 with a 69.8% field goal average.

I am not trying to be hatefull or smart-aleck, but it seems to me Kendrick Davis should be included in the 2005-06 class as this is his first season to play for the Mean Green.

Also, Keith Wooden should be mentioned as part of the 2006-07 class.

I believe Mean Green fans will be very happy with Wooden. Think of Wooden as a player with the strength and defensive technique of Justin Barnett combined with the mobility, athleticism and hands of Jeffrey Simpson.

Counting Wooden, I think we have an excellent class for next year. Bell will be a player. His average assist total (in a good conference/region) exceeds that of either Hines or Brown at their respective J.C.'s. Wooden dominates the floor in practice. Can't wait to see him, Davis, Strum, as well as Brown and Bell at the point guards. And, it seems as though Mangrum is justifying his early offer.

Bell's shot at buzzer lifts San Jacinto past Jacksonville

Ben Bell broke the hearts of Jacksonville College Jaguars players and fans alike, when he knocked down a jump shot at the buzzer to give the San Jacinto College Ravens a 68-67 Region XIV Conference win at Curtis Carroll Field House Wednesday night.

The Ravens (10-6 overall, 4-4 in conference) inbounded the ball with just 12.30 seconds to play in the game and worked their way up the court. After a couple of passes, San Jacinto reached its end of the floor and Bell got the ball in the corner. As the final seconds ticked off the game clock, he dribbled around just long enough to create space and get an open shot to win the game.

“It’s tough,” Jacksonville College head coach Greg Young said of the loss. “You feel for the kids. They are the ones that played their fannies off and played so hard, and put themselves in position to win, and made all the plays that they could make.

“They (the Ravens) just made a good shot on us. What else can you do? You have got to get ready for the next one. That is all you can do.”

To me, next year looks like we have a chance to have the best team EVER here at North Texas. If everyone shows up, we're finally going to have an abundance of big men and a whole lot of deep experienced talent at guard as well as all over the court. If we continue to improve this year, I still think there's a definite chance that we could win the SBC tourney and make the NCAA's. Things are looking up in the MeanGreen B-ball world!
