They didn't choose Jerry Moore over Bill Brasher. They told Brasher that he would have to apply like everyone else, and that they would take his application under advisement. This pissed Brasher off so much that he made the decision to not go through the application process and instead joined Fry in Iowa.

Brasher had devoted his playing and coaching career to North Texas. I don't know if he worked for Odus Mitchell, but he did work for Rod Rust, and Hayden Fry retained him when he took over the program. Since most head coaches like to bring their own people in, what did that say about Brasher's abilities as a coach?

I was reminded of all this "North Texas Administrative boneheaded stuff", when I read recently about the Boise St. head coach being hired by Colorado.  The Boise St. head coach is hired by Colorado on December the 17th. Immediately after that announcement (and I'm talking the same day folks) Boise St. officials announce that the DC has been elevated to the head coaching position.

So, in one decisive stroke, the Boise St. program maintains a great deal of it's continuity, and they will probably continue (without much disruption) the progress that they've enjoyed for the last 20 years.

Because you will never see the NT administration act with such decisiveness and forethought, we will always be fighting an uphill battle to get our football program operating any higher than where it is now.

After Bruce Bell retires after signing day, just how many NT past player types do we have on this staff? Don't tell me that there aren't any out there that aren't miles ahead of these-- Bruce Chambers, Eric Peagram just to name a couple not to mention one HS sensational coach who previously coached at NT, and I have been told would return to stay in the area--TD stands for Touchdown and also what this coach's offense produces plenty of.

Fry and Dickey.

...I can't believe there's a debate on this.

Maybe a different slant on all this, but I wonder what Dickey would have been able to do with Fry's 1970's teams or............what Fry would have been able to do with Dickey's recent teams? }:>)

Sorry, fella's, Hayden Fry wins this one in a landslide.

Wish some of you young gun alums could have seen the man in action (without today's Denton/Denton County population or UNT's present huge enrollment AND..........not anywhere near the facility resources our present regime has. Fry had to do much with less and he danced with what was given him once he arrived at UNT.

AND.............Fry did "NOT" get on the radio (or his weekly TV show) for 4 plus years running and complain about what he didn't have in Denton and for damn sure Coach Fry would never diss the very people who supported his football program, either.

In fact, Coach Fry knew you by name after he met you one time and he made you feel pretty damn special whether you gave the Mean Green Club $.05, $5 or $5,000. There really was much more to Hayden Fry than merely some high profile wins in Mean Green Country. Many of us have wished he could have come at a much later time in our football history--like, uh..............well, you know.
