I can't do links.....but it's available at www.sunbeltsports.org, if someone would link it.

Some wacko questions, as usual.

A complaint from a dad who is pissed because his kid (Guillory at ULM) wasn't named Defensive Player of the Year.

But the funniest thing......at the bottom, they respond to questions about officiating at the Alamo Bowl. "due to the large volume of questions" (or something like that).

Danny: Have you thought of adding Texas State University and Missouri State University? I believe both may have aspirations to be 1-A in football. I believe they would be good additions because of geography and they could provide rivals for present members. I believe a lot of the conference realignments today have not factored in geographical considerations which can provide for rivalries. Presently you have UL-Lafayette/UL-Monroe, Fla Atlantic/Fla International, Troy/Middle Tennessee as rivals or developing rivalries. I believe Texas State could be a good rival for North Texas and Missouri state could be a good rival for Arkansas State. Having these additional schools in the Sunbelt Conference will provide for 9 conference games which will help foster the growth of your football program and obviate your need for "body bag" games. I applaud all your efforts in getting Sun Belt Football up and running and I wish you much future success!

Commissioner Waters: Danny, there are two forces at work. We can survive very well as an 8-team football league. The other is we are a 13-team league for basketball. For us to take someone else into the conference, they would have to bring a bunch to the table, such as the ability to go deep in the basketball tournament or play in a BCS Bowl Game.

The basketball scenario is more likely. It's easier to get into the NCAA tourneys but really difficult to break into BCS games. It's the truth about the tournament system and that in the BCS, the "have-nots" tend to continue to "have-not". Furthermore, if that's the case, I hope he's not applying the same rule to the existing SBC schools.

Ya, right. Since there are no 1-A teams wanting to join the SBC, and no 1-AAs moving up right now that's easy to say. Watch as soon as Georgia Southern or Texas State hints they are considering moving up how fast WW is on a plane there. dry.gif

My guess is that right now folks around the Sun Belt have their fingers crossed that Georgia Southern or Texas State won't start a move to I-A in the next year or two at least so they can see how the situations with WKU and La.Tech play out.

Ryan: With Arkansas State winning the Sun Belt and Louisiana-Lafayette being bowl eligible, I have a question. Will the Sun Belt explore other bowl opportunities seeing as how this is the 2nd year in a row we have had 2 bowl eligible teams. Also do you feel like now ASU and ULL and ULM along with the rest of the conference has finally turned the corner where the can compete with Conference USA and the MAC?

Commissioner Waters: Certainly we did pursue other considerations for other games as we did for Troy last year. Our schools learn more about the bowl selection process every year. Every game is important and attendance both at home and on the road is critical to bowl selection. We are narrowing the gap, but our non-conference record as a league was a lot more impressive last year than this year. Every non-conference game in every sport is critical.

I hope DD reads this board, especially the last sentence!

do yall think flanigan and DD still have feelings for SMU since they were former SMU'ers....

i would hate to think so, i have so much hate for them, and want to see them beaten in denton and dallas.

Im gonna go with NO. I think it would be absurd to think that DD doesnt want to win every game he coaches, no matter who it is against. Capability is different than desire.

Yep, that's definitely what got FAU in. laugh.gif
