Simpson better than Shawnson Johnson?

Jeffery Simpson is a beast. This guy gets better every time I see him play. As much as we all liked ShoJo, Simpson is just a better overall player. We had better hope Muse and Wooden are somewhat near what Johnson brings to the court next year. (speaking of...........I don't see Wooden on the bench right now. I hope it is just a holiday thing)

On tonight - I had no clue Calvin Watson could go to the hole like that.

SFA's #1 (Marcus) is a very solid player.

We still need to improve the perimeter D - Simpson is guarding the paint, the backcourt needs to guard the line.

I don't remember seeing Davis on the bench last year during the Holidays either, so it probably is just that.

i am pretty the sure if they are not suiting out or on the "playing" roster you re dismissed for most the holiday....Jared Ruffin was dismissed during his ineligibility time last year....

I love watching Simpson and he is the second best post player I've seen at NT since I started here, but ShoJo was better. He controlled games single handedly. He put up great numbers, better than Simpson, in points, rebounds and blocks. Also his team wasn't as good as the current team and he was the man without a doubt on that team. Simpson sometimes reminds me of how ShoJo dominated games, but Simpson only does that from time to time. ShoJo did it more often than not even though the opposing team knew that the ball was going to him.

Simpson is great, but ShoJo was rare player at NT. If only he had more than one semester...

He was dominant no doubt but I'd take Simpson for one key reason. Wanna stop ShoJo? Double team him and prepare to either start your fastbreak or watch him walk.

My reasons are the same as Emmitts. Shojo started out amazingly strong in his half season. Then the double teams came and he became a minimal factor in the game on the offensive end.

I am glad someone went with Shojo though because sports are more fun if people disagree.

Simpson or Shawnson Johnson?

I am amazed how well Jeffrey Simpson has developed as a player since he came to North Texas. That we are even making this comparison is testimony to that.

Although they're both incredibly strong, they are different types of players. Shawnson was a true center and played best with his back to the basket. Shawnson would muscle through people and force the ball into the basket. Simpson is an excellent power forward that because of his strenght is able to cover the center position. His game is playing in the paint and crashing to the basket whenever there is any kind of opening.

Simpson is clearly the better shooter when outside of 5 feet, and the more reliable free throw shooter. Shawnson was a more dominant rebounder, he used the same wrist-tuck that Rodman used and got everything.

ShoJo definitely had trouble when he was double teamed, but if he had the current Mean Green team around him it might not have been so easy to double team him. The offense revolved around ShoJo which made opposing defenses key on him. Simpson gets more room to work 1 on 1, and also scores a lot of his points off putbacks. With better players around him Simpson's defender often has to come off him to stop a NT player driving the lane, leaving Simpson wide open for a easy dunk. ShoJo didn't get too many of those looks because first his team wasn't as good, and second his man wouldn't come off him because he was the best player on the team.

Clearly Shawnson Johnson (if you forget about his free-throws) I never saw one player handle Johnson one on one within the conference.

It's almost not even fair to compare a guy who played here 1 semester to guys who have/had been here longer. This kid did not have the luxury of adapting to JJ's system. He practically walked out of the LSU's half-time locker room right into Sunbelt Conference games in the Super Pit.

I'm sure you would agree, with a greater understanding of JJ's system and an extra year to develop chemistry with teammates, has help Simpson improve over last year. I'm just glad we can have such a positive post about our personnel.

He finished third on the career block list at NT in only one semester. Simpson passed him last game.

I think that Simpson is a better all around player than Johnson. Much more polished and seems to be getting better all the time. With all of the beef that we have scheduled to come in here next year, too bad we don't have him coming back. He'd make a great power forward.
