AUSTIN, Tex. (12/18/05) – Texas forward Tiffany Jackson scored 27 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to power the 19th ranked Longhorns (5-3) past the North Texas (7-2) women’s basketball team 69-49 at the Frank Erwin Center.

The loss ends the Mean Green’s five-game winning streak is only the second loss of the season for North Texas.

“I thought that we played well but you can’t turn the ball over as many times as we did and beat a team like Texas,” said North Texas head coach Tina Slinker. “We showed that we can play with teams like this but we still need to make some more shots and be more consistent on the offensive end”.

Texas used a 10-0 run to take a 17-6 lead midway through the first half. The Mean Green responded to slice the Longhorns lead to five points at 24-19 with four minutes in the first half. Texas held a seven point halftime lead at 32-25.

The second half never saw the Longhorns lead get any higher than 14 points until the final five minutes of play. Texas closed the game on an 11-1 run fueled by Jackson who tied her career-high with 16 rebounds.

Sophomore Talicia Sanders had her second straight game with 10 rebounds or more as she scored seven points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Freshman Sanetra Jackson and junior DiDi Wali led North Texas in scoring with eight points apiece.

North Texas returns to action on Tuesday night with a game home game against UC-Irvine.
