I noticed while watching the Texas State game that the max number of ships for 1-AA is 63. As soon as I saw that it reminded me of an article talking about how many players have left NT reducing our ships handed out. While I don't remember the specific number mentioned I believe that it was either 63 or 65. Either way that means we were basically fielding a 1-AA team last year. When you have some 20 odd ships not being used that is hard to overcome.

Yes, I heard 77 also, but still well below the 85 allowed. Only losing 10 seniors will help. If a player left and is eligible to come back, say like a Byerly, does that count against the signing limit of 25?

Of course, recruiting young men who pan out helps any NCAA D1-A football program keep its 'ship numbers close to where they are supposed to be.

Certain kinds of attrition (bad grades, homesick, love sick for HS girl friend, etc, etc,) happen at many NCAA D1-A outposts, but you still have to recruit the kind of young man that will allow your school to keep those at a miniumum.

There are few things about NCAA D1-AA that most of us who followed all this for 12 long years miss, especially in light of the fact that our alma mater is located in a major league sports market.

77 scholarships…is that for football only or all varsity sports? If it is 77 for football only, that means almost the entire team is on scholarship.
