When is the last time we actually pulled off an upset in basketball? I honestly can't think of a time where we beat someone who was rated significantly higher than us. This one wouldn't have ranked in the 'shocker' category, but it would have been a really nice one to get.

I'm getting worn out by moral victories and "we lost but we looked good" games, basketball and football. These are the type of games you have to get if you earn respect.

I don't know, considering some AtM was getting a couple of Top 25 votes, and we had a chance to win the game, I feel pretty good about our team. Sure I'd like THEM to be getting some votes for the Top 25, but if we keep playing like that, we'll definitly start winning some. Way to go guys!

I turned it on when it was 52-50 and I was shocked.

so if we lost to texas next year because we missed a feild goal as time runs out, you would be pissed and not be happy at all that it was that close of a game?

I made the post while watching St Joseph's beat Kansas. Not a big upset because St Joes is really good. But it makes me wonder:

1. How do they recruit that well in the tough Philadelphia area, and

2. How did they build their program to the point where they can go toe to toe with elite programs?

My guess is that they started pulling off upsets of better known programs in the Northeast, where they gained notierity and confidence. As their program got noticed, they were able to get better players, and they continued to gain stature and confidence to the point where they could play with anyone.

That's where we need to start if we want to reach a higher level. Beating Chattanoga is a good win, but we have to start at least getting wins over the A&M's and Houston's of the region. Then we can get some publicity and develop the swagger that our programs need desperately. Being close doesn't do anything for us. That's life.

To answer your question, I'd be thrilled beyond belief to stay that close to Texas, but that's an extreme example. The Tulsa, La Tech and SMU games give us at least some chance to establish ourselves regionally, and those are the ones we need to get.

My son (a senior in the Corps of Cadets) was at the game. We spoke during the game. He was surprised at how NT gave A & M all they wanted. I'd have loved to beat those Aggies. It would have made for some great Christmas dinner banter.
