I think Miller realizes she goofed on the Cowboys deal so Dallas is desperate not to lose any other football games, especially after the stadium is completed.

The Cotton Bowl is a giant Fouts, in a pitiful part of the city, with no hotels nearby, hosts no other events outside a few high school games, and has Miller saying she wants $50 million to re-do it to have 3 college games a year. laugh.giflaugh.giflaugh.gif

See Legion Field in Birmingham as an example what will happen to it ( note: Bama and Auburn used to play every year there too).

Hey, NT80, should we (immediately) start a letter writing campaign to Governor Rick Perry to suggest he immediately put the Dallas mayor on our NT Board of Regents? Why? The woman (with this Cotton Bowl $cenario) obviously has a helluva' lot of sports savvy' and sports $ense about her and would be a natural on our NT Board. Heck, in her very first official NT BOR meeting her first recommendation would probably be to give DDickey yet another extension to his long-running "dare we break it/though NCAA coaches do all the time" contract at UNT. ph34r.gif (This NCAA D1-A coaching career taking place in Denton, Texas, just continues to amaze and baffle this longtime follower of NCAA college football). wink.gif

And here we go again with yet another Metroplex stadium which will be dramatcally ($50 million?) improved (or built, such as SMU's Ford Stadium, Hunt's Soccer Complex in Frisco, the Arlington Cowboys new football palace which will soon turn dirt, etc, etc, etc) while we see our very own Fouts Field is still (probably) the main UNT campus venue 60,000 daily commuters on the 2 Denton interstates will still continue to see.

Of course, with a new major college football stadium at UNT I think our NT BOR's would need to seriously re-commit to a major college football upgrade (like UTEP did with Coach Price as well as San Diego St's new committment) with our football goals much higher than merely being satisfied with trying to (only) get back to the top of SBC/Bottom 10, ie, Best of the Worst success as seems to be our present modus operendi under present coaching leadership and with recent recruiting trends, right? unsure.gif

Maybe all we get in Denton are just (long needed) minor sports venues and that will satisfy most?

Have A Nice "cold" Day! smile.gif

GOD BLESS TEXAS...

Actually there are quite a few soccer games held there every year that draw in decent numbers. It will definitely increase attendance to those games if they improve the venue.

Do they still play soccer at the Cotton Bowl since they finished the field in Frisco?

I am not talking about F.C. Dallas. I am talking about a lot of the Mexico/Central America/South America clubs that come to Dallas to play. I have been to quite a few.

The sad part of this is that all of these changes are for 3 games a year.

I think Dallas would lose more money if they lost Texas/OU then the Cotten Bowl Classic.

And I don't think Miller screwed up on the Cowboys and a new stadium. I bag on Miller for a lot of stuff but I think she was actually right on this.

Professional sports teams hold cities hostage. "Give me a new stadium or we'll move to a city that will." Disgusting.

I agree with you here.

But I did think Dallas had a chance to really devolop that area into a nice attraction, not just a stadium. They had alot of things planned for the area and really could have improved an otherwise ghetto part of the city. Anyone who has been down around fair park knows the surrounding areas arent exactly family friendly.

I find Miller to be an annoying person, and wanted to laugh at how arrogant she was being about the whole cotton bowl situation saying she was confident they would keep the RRS in dallas implying she had all the bargaining chips, or as she said "money".

I think the city of Dallas has no leverage in this. This isn't "If you agree to stay, we will make these additions." It is more of "We will make these additions and hope both of you WILL stay...PLEASE!!!!!!"

While it has been a tradition, the two schools could easily agree to a "home and home" schedule like all the other games. This would suck for State Fair. Not as many prople will make the treck to Dallas for Grambling/Prarie View at the State Fair.

Have you been to any since they opened Frisco?

The last friendly I went to at the Cotton Bowl was US v Mexico.

I really doubt the National team will ever play there again now that Frisco is open.

I wonder if our neighbors to the south wouldnt prefer to play in Frisco.

Now, what they should do is put another MLS team in the Cotton Bowl, A team with ties to the Mexiacn league like Cruz Azul or Pumas...

PS the US got hosed in the seeding. Making Mexico a #1 over the Dutch or Czech's is pitiful.

SO now there is the chance that we will be in a group with 2 possible #1's instead of just one.
