12/5) Warriors and weather stop Cards from winning at Indian Hills/Hy Vee Classic. #2 Mineral Area dropped their first game of the season 74-54 to #5 Indian Hills on Friday. Indians Hills hands Mineral Area first loss

OTTUMWA, IA - The Indian Hills Warriors wanted their No. 2 ranking back after losing it this past week, and it meant having to defeat the Mineral Area Cardinals who had just been elevated to that ranking. The Warriors came out with great intensity and a tenacious defense that kept the Cardinals at bay on the boards, both backboard and scoreboard for a 74-54 win.The Warriors outrebounded the Cardinals by a margin of 36-23 with several of their boards coming on offense for second chances at scoring. Indian Hills also spent much time at the free throw line where they were exceptionally good, going 22-25 in the second half, and 29-35 for the game. The Cardinals were only 10-16 on free throws.The Cardinals trailed by 10 at the half, but the Warriors pushed out to a much larger lead. Mineral Area closed it to within 10 points again with four and a half minutes left in the game but a three by Ashton Sauls kept the Cardinals from coming any closer.Curtis Muse led the team with 21 points, and T.J. Britton was next with seven.The Cardinals, 9-1, will have a week to figure out how to beat the Indians since they will be at home against the Warriors (8-1) on Saturday in the Rotary Classic. MAC's next game is tonight against Des Moines Area College at Indian Hills.

(11/30) #2 Cards stay perfect at 9-0 with 88-74 win over Lewis & Clark. MAC used a balanced attack and solid defense to win their first MCCAC Conference game of the season over the TrailBlazers. Second-ranked Cardinals remain undefeated

PARK HILLS - The Mineral Area Cardinals had just recently been ranked as the No. 2 team in the nation. They were not prepared to lose to the Lewis and Clark Trailblazers on Wednesday. Mineral Area dominated the Trailblazers with an 88-74 victory.Lewis and Clark had a very frustrating time on the charity stripe as they made only 18 out of 40 free throws. The Cardinals had a much better showing as they were 20-28 from the free-throw line.Mineral Area's Tony Webb scored two baskets, and Darryl Butterfield added a lay-up to take a quick 6-0 lead, but David Graham quickly tied the game up with a jump shot and a pair of lay-ups. The Cardinals went on a 12-4 scoring run which included a three-pointer by Webb and Ralph Mata to regain a 18-10 edge.The Trailblazers tied the game on a 12-2 run for a 24-24 game. The Cardinals regained the lead on a 13-3 scoring spree. Willie Hassell had seven points which included a three pointer during the run. Lewis and Clark's Will Jones broke up the small run with a free throw, but Hassell answered with another triple.Jonathan Jackson drained a jump shot for Mineral Area, and Dontavis Jones added a three-point shot for their last points of the half. Alphonso Towns and Pierre Howard both added two more tallies for the Trailblazers before the end of the first half. The Cardinals were ahead 47-36.The two teams exchanged four points before Mineral Area's Curtis Muse slammed down a dunk as the building shook with cheers. Lewis and Clark retaliated with a small 8-1 scoring run for a 54-48 game. Terrance Peirson scored six of those eight points.The Cardinals racked up 12 straight points to extend their lead which included a couple of lay-ups by Steven Schauf. Howard broke up the streak with a three pointer. Webb later drained his second three-point shot of the game for a 75-55 lead.Hassell set up Butterfield for an alley oop before the Trailblazers added 10 consecutive points for an 83-72 contest. Peirson scored the first four tallies of the drive. Lewis and Clark added two points, and the Cardinals chipped in four more, which included a dunk by Tremaine Wilkerson before the end of the game.Peirson finished with a game-high 23 points. Muse had 16 points and nine rebounds for Mineral Area. Hassell followed Muse in points with 14.The Cardinals, now 9-0, will visit Indian Hills on Friday.Lewis and Clark - 36 38 -74Mineral Area - 47 41 - 88

Now that football is over, I'm playing catch up to BBall season. Is Muse on the watch list or commitment list?

BTW, the Dukies make me sick! Amazing game yesterday and a crusher to a VaTech program that hasn't been able to get it together since Ace Custis.

Muse has committed. Lets hope he proves to be a good signing.
