I had the privilege of playing with Matt last year at Lake View, You guys got a good one, Although you might not think of the guy as a mobile Qb he rushed for 23 TDs last year He also has a Rocket for an arm. He had like 5,000 passing yards his high shcool career.

He is a franchise kinda guy who boasts great leadership He will easily win the starting QB role this offseason.

By the way another LV player on your team who is Red shirted right now is FB/RB Robert payne..This kid is a freak of nature.

Good luck next season hope you guys have a winning season!

I thought the same thing about Phillips. Can you extrapolate regarding Robert Payne. Would he be able to open holes for Jamario. Any input is welcome.

Too bad we will probably never get to see him start since DD is trying to get a JC QB for next year.

I would hope that DD wouldn't be so foolish, IMHO we have some pretty good players at the skill positions (even QB) What was obvious to me this season was we had no OL or DL. I hope that is where the recruiters are focusing. I hope that is not too much to expect.

DD bringing in a JC QB isn't such a bad idea if the OL comes together and the new guy can learn the system.

BUT- I'd go ahead and say that both Matt and Daniel should be given an even shot at the starting job. Both have potential (I still vote Matt) and they should get a shot at starting.

I love the idea of bringing in a JUCo QB or any JUCO at any position...Thats how you build a program. Synder built KSTATE on JUCO players...not just in the early years, heck every year. Nebraska is recruiting JUCO's hard over the past few years. There is nothing wrong with a JUCO player! If a JUCO QB pushes for the starting job next year so be it.

Competition makes everyone better!

Hey Matt,

There will be QB openings at Sam Houston State or any number of 1-AA schools who will gladly use your talents, rather than sitting on a bench for 3 more years pondering why you never get to start despite all the numbers pointing to you as the better option.

Wow I am so glad to have gotten 2 degrees from UNT and spent my time and money at UNT events to have some nugget lurker coming on here to bash me.

What is wrong with what I said?? Do you actually think DD will give him the time time of day?

Keep those glasses green though. tongue.gif

Im assuming this is sarcasm, otherwise im confused at the point of your post? blink.gif seems a little knee-jerk. We had alot of problems on offense, and he was a freshmen, no?

Alittle of both, but why would he waste his time riding the bench, espcially if DD plans on trying to get a JUCO QB as well as possibly bring Byerly back.

If all this happens it was seen this year that DD trusts more in DM, so that would make Matt 4th String. dry.gif

Honestly the time to bring in a JUCO QB was before last season. If they brought one in this year it would just set the program back. You have 2 young QBs both capable of leading this team and now both with valuble gametime experience. You also have Byerly who is the size of Ben Roethlesberger and the potential to take this team on his shoulders that will be coming back to compete. It will be hard enough for DD to pick one of the 3 why try and split it 4 ways with a JUCO and waste a scholarship that could be better used bringing in a young lineman so we don't have the OL and DL problems we have had the last 2 years. Honestly, I like Phillips for the job, but if Byerly stayed in shape since leaving the team and gets eligable in time for Spring ball expect him to start against Texas. You have to remember he is very hard to bring down and can scramble very well; those are 2 things we could have used this year. Meager had his shot this season and unless someone gets hurt he should be behind Byerly and Phillips.

Byerly is easy to bring down. He missed an entire season so far without even getting on the field. Nobody even had to hit him to bring him down. He did it all on his own.

It would be foolishness to rely on a person who can't make the grades to lead your team, esp. at the QB position. And don't forget he's now a year behind in the offense (I know, not like it's complicated, but still).

Agreed. Byerly's had his chance. Let Meager and Philips compete for the job in the Spring and move Byerly to TE.

Byerly should be a TE. 6-5/ 250 is a great size for blocking and receiving,a nd he is fast enough. The issue is "can he catch?".. Well he may not have too much. I honestly believe we move Brock Stickler to TE soon... and that guy can catch the ball as well as Blount did... maybe better. SO, Byerly gets an occasional catch, and gets to light up linebackers... Not a bad way to keep a scholarship if he can just make freakin "C"'s in his classes.

Shoot for the 2.0 JB, just a freakin 2.0 and you play...

I would love to see Byerly at Fullback... our current Fullback is to small.

Mitchell is the size of an RB, no doubt. I like how fast that guy can be and just how hard he can hit as he punches through the line.

BUT- I have to ask if you've been to any of the games, because Keronna Henderson is not at all small. He's got talent and muscle, I just wish the staff let him use it more. He didn't get many carries and he didn't even get to block much.

Byerly? Give him a shot during the summer while busting his tail for grades. If he doesn't do well, then drop him and stick him somewhere else. He's a tall guy, so why not line him up at TE, LB, or ever as a speed-rush DE?

2.0 wouldbe great, but for Football he only needs the magical 1.8 number unless it has changed. huh.gif

Byerly may not have made his grades, but it was only a year ago when alot of us thought he could lead this team to another Belt championship. I watched him last spring put linebackers on their back and turn a 5-7 yard run into a 20 yard run. He has some serious talent and if you want to keep Meager in the mix after the year he had Byerly should stay too. He has the talent he just needs to get his crap together and if thats all it takes to not have a starting shot anymore then Lineberry should have lost his job too. We are here to make grades and maybe sitting out a season will force Byerly to get it together. If he does he will only help this program at QB, either through starting or pushing the starter, though he would be an imposing figure at LBer. blink.gif

Replacing a QB takes much more of a toll on your team than any other position, so the comparison to Lineberry doesn't really work. Byerly may have serious talent, but, as stated before, he's now a year behind. I don't really believe that he would've led us to another Belt title this year, because he's not quite big enough to play on either line (although he's not far off for us sad.gif).

I liked what I saw from Byerly in practices, but Meager was barely behind him last year, and now he (Byerly) hasn't played in a while. If I were making out a depth chart right now, he'd be #3 at best. He would have to blow everyone else away completely to make it. It could happen. Byerly could turn it around, BUT you have to be a team leader to play at the QB position. If you can't make the 1.8 GPA to play college football, I do not believe your team can have the necessary faith in you.
