If you're ASU:

You are a conference champion, have a winning record and you're going to your first bowl game ever. On the other hand, you know that you are still a bad team, you had no quality wins, played a scoreless regulation game against FIU , had to struggle to beat a bad UNT team, and got killed by MUTS and Army.

If you're SMU:

You had another losing season, and are a lower-tier team in your conference. You have to get a lot better to be in contention for a bowl game. Your fan support still sucks. On the other hand, you beat two top-25 teams and had another quality win over UAB.

Who had the better year?

SMU. Any CUSA team has an advantage over a team from the Sun Belt just as any Big-12 team has a built-in advantage over anyone in CUSA. The better the reputation and perks that your conference has the easier it is to have the tools to win and be prosperous. That's why we have to fire this coaching staff and bring in a coach that can get us to the level where a better conference would want us.

The only thing that matters is who wins the ball game and the final score. Beyond that, it's difficult for a loser to elevate itself above someone who has beaten them. Five years from now, who's going to remember or better yet, who will really care. I agree ASU's football team is very mediocre, but UNT is below that. That's not a put down, but just the way it is. Let's hope both ASU and UNT can have more success in the future. The Sunbelt is the bottom of the barrel for now and has been. I think we are all embarrassed and ashamed of our football programs.

I dont care about SMU one bit. But 2 wins over top 25 teams and winning the last few games of the season, playing close with almost all of their competition (exception A&M) and having a bright look to next season...

I would take that 5-6 season in C-USA over ASU's 6-5 New Orleans Bowl season.
