MARKETING!

So, I'm looking through the usual array of post-Thanksgiving ads and I come across the one for Academy (sports and outdoor). I'm thumbing thru it and come to a page that has "NCAA SWEATSHIRTS" (page 4 btw).

Now, I'm used to seeing the "usual suspects" being offered (most B-12 and SEC schools) but the "others" really pi$$ed me off!

Other NCAA sweatshirts listed in the Academy ad.....

Tulsa, McNEESE, NICHOLS ST, UAB, LAMAR, ULL, JACKSON (I assume Jackson St.) LA TECH.

So, I can go the my local Academy sports and outdoor store and buy ANY of the sweatshirts list above and I CANNOT BUY A NORTH TEXAS SWEATSHIRT?!?!?

Blame that on the athletic depatment and the administration. I have gone to hat stores looking for the new designs (can only be found at the UNT bookstore and Voertman's) and been told UNT has not liscensed any of the new designs yet. This also goes for any gear. The reason you see all these other schools out there is because they don't make it a ROYAL pain in the ass to get liscensed gear. I'm not saying let any idiot sell NT gear, but come on if Lidz wants the new hat designs get them out there, and geez how long did it take for Wal-Mart in Denton to be able to sell NT gear. They had Denton and Denton Ryan gear before NT gear. Some one up top needs to get their sh*t together and learn what marketing is really about, and its not about only letting 2 stores in the US carry a full line of NT gear!

I blame CLC. The costs to sell CLC licensed items is way too high and prevents many "smaller" programs (like NT) from getting their gear out. Even large distributers (like Academy) have a hard time justifying the costs to put our Mean Green gear cause our fan base isn't like ut and atm.

If Nicholos State and those other D1AA schools can afford to do it, then so can we here at UNT afford it.

Once again though, our administration blows it. They go and change the look so that we can sell more merchandise, but then don't release it so that places like Academy can sell it.

No, the blame lies directly with our AD dept and the university URCM department under the control of Deborah Liliart. They have made some strides in some areas, but what SE just described is an all too familiar example of the complete failure in athletic gear supply for our school. Someone is asleep at the wheel. Bill, save that flyer for me please.

Isn't there usually a specialist in most programs in charge of that - like external sales or something of that sort? Who runs that in the AD?

Also, isn't it a bit hypocritical to treat the AD with kid gloves on marketing promotions failures and go after the people below him? I love RV and what he has done for us, but ultimately isn't stuff like this on him?

I've been able to find the new NT logo stuff without problems....bought a hat in the Plano mall before the season started and bought a football at my local Kroger (Allen)....seems to me that the AD is doing a better job on this....how else would an NT football be found at a Kroger???

I know that I can find stuff at various stores around Denton. But my point is that the McNeese St's and Nichols St's of the world are making themselves "accessable" to ol'joe 6-pack" and we need to do the same.

We also need to make our product available to the "casual" North Texas fan/alumni who lives in the metroplex, but isn't particularly motivated to drive up to the Denton Mall to buy a hat or sweatshirt.

If you're going to e-mail Academy, you need to "cc" the athletic department, so that they know that you're unhappy with the lack of marketing for North Texas products.
