I drove to the NT-ULM game a couple of seasons ago in Monroe. I was impressed with their band. They actually have uniforms. Their War Bonnets Dancing Teepee Chicks were ok. The fact that they brought their band should be applauded, not dissed. I listened to the game on the radio and you could clearly hear their band playing almost constantly.

How often do we get a visiting band...seldom seldom! So, here's to the Marching Injuns! Maybe we'll bring our band to Monroe next year. We'll have to have them innoculated against the mesquito infestation near the LaMo Campus!

It's seems we see fewer and fewer bands traveling to away games.

It's all about budget. Most college marching bands just don't have the budget to make band trips. Some schools like A&M have a 500k endowment to fund band travel, others don't travel at all. Kansas State didn't make one band trip this year. Ones that can scrape together the money usually only schedule a few road trips per year and when they do they often are short trips that can done by bus without an overnight stay. Or to justify the exspense, they often mix in some recruiting and perform at a high school game on Friday night. When the do plan an extended road trip they dont always have hotel rooms. It's not uncommon for them rely on parents, friends of the band, alumni etc for places to stay. These people take in a few of the band kids and put them up in guest, coaches, even sleeping bags on the floor. My sister and her husband are band directors in the Houston area, they both tell stories of band trips where they slept in sleeping bags on a high school gym floor. Seems it's common practice to get an alumnus who is a high school band director to get permission to use the gym to put up the college band when needed.
