Women's coach gets 200th win at UNT

DENTON - Tina Slinker picked up her 200th win as UNT coach and the Mean Green won for the first time in 26 games against Stephen F. Austin, 71-65, Friday night.

Slinker, in her 17th season at UNT, is 200-240. Mian Williams led UNT with 18 points. Erika Bobo had 15 and 10 rebounds in both teams' opener.

Wow, she picked up her 200th win AFTER her 200th loss, and well after I might add. Plus it took her almost 20 years to get 200 wins, a good coack would have twice that by now. I don't know why we are recognizing a coach that averages 12 wins a season... When her teams start stringing together winning seasons and 20+ win seasons then I will recognize her efforts.

She had nearly a decade of losing seasons before that string of about 4-5 good years. If we were going to fire her that's when it should have happened. She's since struggled again. That good stretch bought her some leeway for me, HOWEVER I would agree that the leash should be somewhat short this season.

If we're not .500 or so I'd seriously consider looking elsewhere.
