Slinker seeks 200th win at UNT tonight

12:46 AM CST on Friday, November 18, 2005

By BRETT VITO / Denton Record-Chronicle

DENTON – Women's basketball coach Tina Slinker goes after her 200th victory with the Mean Green tonight when North Texas hosts Stephen F. Austin at the Super Pit.

Slinker is 199-240 heading into her 17th year at UNT. She is the program's all-time leader in wins.

"The only reason that I want that 200th win is it would be a great way to start the season off," Slinker said.

"I haven't really thought about it being No. 200 as much as I want to get that first win to get us going in a positive direction."

let's see. 200 wins divided by 17 years = not so great.

Makes you wonder how someone can stay on the job 17 years with a record 41 games below .500.

Only at UNT I guess.

Tina was vastly undersupported several years which means she was recruiting as a real underdog.

The negitive drift above is unfortunate. She has taken her club to the NIT & I think the NCAA not to long ago. Most clubs can't say that about their girls team.

She played a good NCAA tournment team into overtime to end the season last year. Sorry you al' missed the game!

2 postseasons out of 16; no postseason wins; knocked out of sbc tourney last year in first game AT HOME

I was at the game, it was a good game.

We were still one and done at the tournament that we hosted, and she still has a terrible career record.

If it weren't for Jalie and Rosalyn...yikes.
