1. Constantly bad mouthing the fans, the department, his situation, etc...

2. Fostering an environment of hostility towards the fans and supporters of this program that is evident in his comments and now the actions of his OC.

3. Lack of discipline. Coaches going after fans, coaches not doing their job in the offseason, players in trouble with the law, players getting in trouble the night before bowl games, players not making their grades, unsportsmanike conduct penalties without consequence, etc, etc, etc...

4. Not willing to sell the program.

5. Abysmal showing against similar level opponents: Tulsa, La Tech, Memphis, etc...

6. The most boring and predictable offensive system in college football.

North Texas football is at a crucial point in its existence, and DD is the wrong person at the controls.

BTW, LJ, DD and RF are all from SMU.

So was Hayden Fry!  wink.gif

Hayden Fry was asked to leave SMU, all others mentioned left of their own accord. One other contrast--- Hayden Fry beat SMU and encouraged his coaches in other sports to step it up when competing with the metroplex privates. None of the above can be said of the others mentioned and even less will be said after game 2 of 2006.

We all know he has to improve on all fronts or go. I think he needs to be nicer to the fans, I think he needs to make the team perform at its potential and instill some on and off-field discipline.

But-

Where is the money for a buyout going to come from?

Where's the money for a new coach going to come from?

Who would do well at UNT, and who would coach here?

The buy-out is for other schools

The budget

Any hungry offensive Coordinator or defensive Coordinator that wants to make a name for himself. All UNT has to to is make it known they are looking and resumes will fly in. Then interview we can't really do much worst.

I can' t believe some people actually think this is not DD's Offense. He has had plenty of time to get discipline under control recruit and so on but has not. Most of the stats show as a team we have been slipping since the end of 2002. This is the wrong direction.

Besides Franchonie will be available after next season.

Theres a thought, replace one coach who has stalled out in a program with another who has done nothing except set all time worst loss records at his current job. Plus, he will leave the second he gets a better offer. No thanks.

Agree with most of Lifers post... look at the teams the last 3 years... its a downward trend. Time to shake things up... at the very least bring in a new OC.

I agree that SMU is the root of all evil. We must wipe them out.....esp. the ones who have infiltrated UNT at high levels (ie...all those you mention above).

I would VEHEMENTLY oppose Devil Fran (Franchione) being employed in any capacity at NT---this is strictly based on my blind dislike for the man. tongue.gif

Make the new coach buy-out DD's contract.

Say we owe DD $200K x 4 years = $800K. The new coach will get a 5-year deal worth $260K/year, except that $160K/yr will go to the DD fund to retire it. If the new coach leaves for a bigger $ coaching job before the end of 5 years, the new school will be responsible for paying off the owed remaining $.

Why would a new coach accept these terms? The Mike Price theory. Many former successful coaches want a shot at the Big Time again, but must prove themselves first. Three years at NT, win some big OOC games, get noticed by media, get offer from high-$ Univ.

Has anyone seen DD's contract is it guaranteed? OR do we have options? I bet that we do without any payout.

The buyout clause was put in if another school wanted to pick up DD. They pay UNT.

Can't remember for sure the numbers but I believe there's an early-termination of contract clause available to the coach who has to pay only around 50K tops if he wants out (some complained it was too small, especially if another school offered a promotion). The University is responsible for the bulk of the guaranteed base contract if it terminates early = ~$200K/year x #years. Very weighted in favor of a coach to leave on his own and not a school wanting to go another direction.
