You can tell a lot about posters and what they want for the program, how they feel about things, and even their semi agendas by how they react to this vs. their level of involvement ph34r.gif

I will never defend RF for this and anyone who reads my stuff knows my stances on this current coaching staff, but why would anyone be so determined to keep this fight on the board? You either want to move forward and bring your complaints to the school or media on your own initiative, you move on, or you try to just continuously stir the drink for no real purpose...

Circle talking about this really helps nothing at all.

The apology is good enough for RF and SilverEagle.  Enough said.

I 100% agree that it would be a standing ovation in the stands if RF would personally go by and shake SilverEagle's hand on his way to the booth.

You're such a good apologist yourself you should work as a Press Secretary for the President.

I don't know how anyone can make the argument that this situation is limited to just RF and SilverEagle.....that was a PUBLIC display that hundreds witnessed and thousands have now heard about. How is this story spreading around campus??--or is it?

I think that the climate and happenings at Saturday night's game have potentially changed the course of UNT football--and even further, school spirit and pride. A message needs to be sent to all UNT alums and fans that this is not tolerated....an apology is not enough.

not really.

Uhm no you can't. My reaction to this is no reflection of an "agenda" or what I want for the program. I mean our offensive coordinator went after a fan during a game and an "apology" is enough? I am glad that an apology is enough for SilverEagle, sorry this is not just about him though. If you don't think that this is hypocrisy at it's best, run up in the press box next week, yell at RF and then come out on Monday and apologize and see if nothing else happens to you. I mean Cerebus if RF says that it was ok, should we just allow fans to verbally attack coaches on the sidelines or press box?

I like that you appeal to Cerebrus like you are second in command here...

If you care, DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! You missed my point altogether -you talking in loops on this board will not change anything whatsoever.

The athletic department is open for criticism, letters whatever. You can even call your buddies in the admin building if need be - but why clutter the message board with the same variations of 4 posts you've put up here for the last few weeks.

Put up or shut up... and don't get mad at me - no need to make a flame war.

This is an absurd situation for the university to be in and if you are truly outraged why not take action beyond an anonymous post?

If i'm out of line let me know - and I apologize. We can throw down in the stands sometime if need be biggrin.gif

*sigh*

Look, when I was contacted, I wasn't asked what sort of consequences and/or punishment I wanted to see happen in this matter. Apologies were the only thing that was discussed with me.

I was given a very sincere apology from the head coach, and I was asked if I wanted a personal one from the coach in question. I said that the apology from the head coach was sufficient for me, but I also felt that this was a larger issue. I felt that, more than anyone, the coach in question owed everyone who had to witness the fiasco, and be affected (or insert the word most appropriate for you... appauled, shocked, embarrassed, frightened etc) by it, an apology. That was done, and the forthcoming apology was worded appropriately.

So, unless RV comes on the board and starts a poll asking what sort of personnel action would be most appropriate, I think that this is over as far as the athletic department is concerned.

The apology was nice, but I still hope that he is gone after this season. Those were my thoughts before this incident. He kind of blew it for himself. If things happened to turn around in a big way over the next couple of seasons, and DD left for a bigger paycheck, RF probably would of been on the short list as his replacement. The odds of that happening are not very high now. He showed a bit of arrogance when he was going after the TN State job a couple of years ago. Not that we don't all do it to a certain extent, but he made it pretty clear that he was using NT as stepping stone to greener pastures. I suspect that he took a step backward and may well end up a OC at a AA school. Amazing how one brief screw up can affect your life.

Yes it about him! He's the guy Flanagan yelled at. Flanagan made a very public, written apology. It is on the Athletic website. It is in the newspaper! His boss and his boss' boss have made it clear this not acceptable behavior and there will be more serious if it happens again.

The aggrieved party was satisfied. Witnesses to a car wreck don't get input into what the settlement will be!

It's done, it's over, it's time to move on.

Perhaps both sides will see the other now in different light.

Fans know the coaches hear them, either thru postings or as they yell from the stands, and the coaches are frustrated too. The coaches know the fans are watching their every decision and won't tolerate like past years.

Fans are not going to pay very long the $1000 in donations, $500 for season tickets, and $20/game for concessions to watch something they could get from a Jr. High game for a lot less.

I not sure a slap on the wrist and an apology is much of an example. Sorry folks he needs to go. For all those that think it was just between Silver and RF, keep in mind he officially represents UNT and made a huge scary seen in front of guests, alumni, students, and recruits in the middle of the stands. This did not happen in the shadows. Silver deserved an apology but that should not be the end of it.

There has been a lot of frustration vented on this board all year. And I would think the coaches have experienced frustration at a level much worse than ours. Remember....this is their bread and butter and our entertainment. That said.....RF should be embarassed at what he did. He issued an apology that, if taken on face value, seemed appropriate because he probably felt remorse.

Now.......Since we both have the same last name....I can give the guy a break.

It's enough for me. Flanagan made a mistake and said some childish things in the heat of the moment. He didn't throw a punch or get physical in any other way (though pushing past fans was pretty out of line). He promptly apologized, which was the right thing to do, but something a lot of people would not have done.

People forget that Flanagan's one of the younger OCs in college football. It shouldn't give him a free pass to harrass fans, but I'd grant the guy one huge error in judgment since he did the right thing afterward.

SilverEagle isn't the only one in the car. What Flanagan did reflects on the entire program and everyone who cares about UNT football climbing out of the hole it fell into in the early '80s. I agree with you that this conflict has been resolved, but the claim that it only affected one fan is bogus.
