With the way the season has gone so far, shoule DD and staff go after a higher number of recruits this year as compared to the past?

Personally I think he should continue getting 3-5 each year. Juco is the best way to fill spots of immeadiate need. Although if you sign to many you don't have the youngsters to step up and fill those spots in the future. I don't know how many ships we have to offer this year, so I'll guess around 22. I say go ahead and sign 5 this year focusing on cornerback, as we lose both starters. And use the other 3-4 to fill in the line on both sides. We are fine at WR, TE, RB, LB, DB, and QB.

I'd be more inclined to bring in D-linemen than O-linemen though both lines could use the help.

We don't know what we have in Isaac Thomas since he has yet to see the field for any significant period of time (think his body wouldn't have helped against that ULL option?). We don't know for sure that TJ Raymond will be with us and there is no "threat" coming off of either edge. As for O-Line we have a big body of two returning and/or redshirted. Don't Mike Mazzola and Ajani Banks have D1 bodies already?

I agree that we look to be good at safety, QB, RB, TE and receiver. I also am cautiously optimistic about the "speed" guys we brought in this last year of recruiting.

Mazzolla left the team before the season started. Although I agree on Banks, I would like to see what the kid has but at this point it's not worth burning his shirt. On D we have some decent ends with Gilmore, Chapman, and Ransom, but another won't hurt. DT seems thin and we know nothing of the status of Thomas and Raymond. Like I said bring in a couple on both sides of the ball, the competition cant hurt.

Mazolla had medical problems that kept him from playing is what I heard.

We brought in Ransom and Pistole from the Juco ranks this last year. Ransom has finally been making his presence known for the last few weeks, but I don't remember seeing Pistole contribute anything this last week-end. Has he played much this year?

So far, Pruitt has been the best Juco DL that we've brought in recently. We've had better luck with our OL Jucos than our DL Jucos.

The number is really not important, whether we bring in 3 or 13. It is the quality that counts. If they cannot contribute the first year, they are on campus ,it is a waste of a scholie. That sould have been given to a high school kid who has time to grow and develop. As for as what position we need JC players for , we just need players period ,you can always find a place for them.

I think the immediate need for next season is on the OL and DL positions. Everything else is fine at this point at the other positions. The new secondary won't be new anymore, the LB's will be even better, our QB will improve (TRUST ME!), etc.

But for all of those positions to work, the OL has to have experience, and I think good JUCO linemen can provide the size and leadership to do so.

I believe we lose our two starting corners. So one half of the secondary will be more developed. The other half will be brand new.

If youth is our eternal excuse, we need to just blow up the team, recruit all freshmen, and then go undefeated when they are all seniors.

That's how college football works, you cannot win with young teams. biggrin.gif

Exactly, which was my point. There's always gonna be times when you're forced to start young players. If you have to have juniors and seniors at every position in order to win, then you'd better get used to losing.

Covington and Branch should not see the field for the final three games. The playing time should go to Cox and Oubre.

Covington and Branch are 2 of the most undisciplined players we have ever had at NT. They are good for at least 2 unsportsmanlike penalties a game.

They do nothing but talk trash and draw stupid penalties. I can't think of 1 positve thing either one has done this season.

Was it Covington that overshot the reciever by 5 yards on what looked to be a sure interception? That was a 3rd down play I believe that ended up going for like 30 yards... mad.gifmad.gif

A big part of the O-line will depend on if Lineberry gets the grades and is able to come back next year. Same on the d-line Raymond will make a big difference in the middle. We need beef on both sides.

I thought that was going to be an INT myself the moment the QB threw the ball. Covington overshot the route and the receiver caught the ball at the highest point. It was nice catch even though it was for the other team.

Just checked out the DMN area top 100, very disappointed. Once again not a single prospect listed NT as even being considered. Here's some intresting tidbits I saw:

NMST 1 verbal and 2 others considering

Sam Houston 1 considering

LALA 1 considering

Tulane 1 verbal and 1 considering

Tulsa 2 verbals and 5 others considering

Wyoming 5 considering

Yes I know DD tells recruits to be hush hush. Why is it that we can not recruit in our own backyard? We are on par with these schools. How many have we signed from the DMN area 100 the past 2 years. I'm guessing not many. With everything going on here I would like to at least see our name on there somewhere. I know its early in the process and DD and staff usually get going a litttle later than others. One good thing that may come out of not going to NO bowl is that the coaches may have more time to focus on recruiting.

In the last two years UNT has 5 from the Dallas area top 100

Why to make you feel better remember 88% will not see the field.

jjpfootball, all I'm saying is that I would like to see NT recruit better in the DFW area. 5 is actually more than I was expecting from the DFW 100. I'm sure that by the time its all said and done we will be fine.
