I hope Rick is right.  However, I for one believe these threads will be the last that we hear of the incident.

If you really feel that it might get swept under the rug email RV, I did already and let him know how you feel about the incident and what you feel should be done with RF.

I don't want to see anyone's career adversely affected by something which could have been a misunderstanding. Sure, we had a coach make a horrific blunder and rush into the stands to confront a fan. Whether he heard the fan correctly the first time we don't know, there was a lot of ruckus and booing happening because of the nearby CSC fiasco.

Should the coach be forgiven and given a second chance? My opinion is no.

Should the coach be terminated immediately? My opinion to that is also no.

The coach in question works in a pressure filled position and simply vented at someone in a threatening manner. I'm sure that he knows he was wrong and regrets this whole mess more than anybody, and has no prior history of any altercations during his previous 7 years here.

He is a marketable commodity who as offensive coordinator has directed the last 2 national rushing champions, has won the last four conference championships, and if UNT wins the next three games can finish no worse than co-champions this year. He really has a bright future without having this mess on his record.

I think he deserves the right to 'resign to explore other opportunities' after the conclusion of this season. Until then, I think he should be isolated as best possible from any other potential situations.

Nobody was hurt. Let's let this situation pass and everyone get to go on with their separate lives.

He is also the offensive coordinator, who has one of the lowest ranked offenses in the nation this year, with the past 2 national rushing champions. He also spent the last off season looking for another job rather than doing the job he was being paid for. He is in charge of one of the most fertile recruiting areas in the NATION and NT has signed only one recruit out of his area in the past 2 years and he has not been able to step on the field. Ramon proved his worth to the program when he attacked Silver. -- NOTHING.

Something should be done about this. He should be suspended for a game. There is no excuse for a coach going into the stands after a fan, especially a NT fan at a home game. Along with what he has done in recruiting lately. That worried me almost as much as his incident on Sat. There is a good chance he may be gone after the season.

How about we bring in Major Applewhile as our new OC, I bet he can for sure get some major talent in here right away. biggrin.gif

We Alums can keep this from happening. Contact every TV & Radio Station, every newspaper, Rick V, DD, Pres. Pohl, every member of the BOR and demand satisfaction.

Yeah, that'll fix his wagon. "Hey Ramon why don't you take a day off from play calling. What's that? The offense will run just as smoothly, if not better, in your absence?"

The most appropriate action would be to ask for his resignation.

In response to the Vito reference - he is simply the beat writer for the DRC. He is just going to report facts and nothing else. I may have this mixed up to the way he was brought up in to this topic, but I was a little down on him a couple of months ago until I realized that he was simply the "Beat" writer and not more of along the lines of a "comumnist'. Don't know if that helps any.

Great guy though, you should email him questions, he is really good at responses. Actually he and Guss are pretty good in that area.

Well, he is more than just a beat writer. He has a column out now that is a pure opinion piece ... It states we should be riding Cobbs into the ground because he has earned it over the years.

Like I said, there is realistically no chance that the contract would/could/should be extended past this current season. Essentially then, he's history. What does North Texas benefit by publicizing that someone made a rash decision which destroyed his career?

I don't think anyone is silly enough to start a wrongful termination suit after that many witnesses and coworkers saw the actions and heard the alleged threat, but why even chance it. Even if the suit is comically outlandish, it's still expensive to defend and would leave a negative mark on all parties involved.

There is no whitewash, I just think that cooler heads should prevail. This is a classic situation where it's just best for both parties to shake hands, thank each other for the opportunities and the services rendered, and go off in separate directions.

Let's think about this, friends. He didn't assault Silver physically. He was/is probably very frustrated. At that precise moment, the needling (statement of a FACT) got to him and he vented. We've all had moments like that.

Having said that, that does not excuse him. I'm more inclined to look at this as just one nail in the coffin which is now almost closed. Adler has it mostly right...it should be AMF at the end of the season. Pursuing other opportunities should be high on RF's To-Do list right after the Thanksgiving weekend.
