The gap between the BCS and non-BCS is (in deed) getting wider. Where it all stops no one knows. Are salary and budget caps needed in the NCAA?

And now the ND head football coach's contract takes it to a new (ridiculous) level, but in Mean Green Country we really do need to (with great haste) make up for 30+ years of football venues neglect. (Brother, can you spare some dimes that adds up to about $50 million)? laugh.gif

Weiss makes more a game than DD does in a season? amazing.

I think its ridiculous to pay a coach that much, but I also think its ridiculous to do this after just 7 some odd games... I mean, really? My guess would be that Notre Dame thinks they have their ticket back to becoming a national elite power and wants to hang on to him. Truth is, they almost (and should have) beat a USC team who's defense isnt as near as good as last years (still impressive, but does one game a season make?), beat a sorry Pitt and UW team, an average purdue team a schizo michigan team and lost to Michigan State.

Yeah, they have done well and Im not trying to take away from that, but its a bit early (IMO) to be writing checks that large.

And this week they will lose 27-20 to an underachieving Vols team ... after agreeing to a contract that a CEO would like to have mua ha ha. Notre Dame hasn't won at home, and UT has *sucked* so ND will think they have the week off, and the Vols will perform where people thought they would pre-season.

Those Yankee-Catholics will love the sound of Rocky Top at the end of the game. And then Phil Fulmer and Charlie Weiss will sumo-wrestle in the middle of the field for the post-game showdown. Fortunately, b/c of ND's Catholic Affilitiation -- they will have to wear their regular coaching attire, and not that of sumo-wrestlers.

I'm sure this will be pulled, but I felt a need to comment at least once...

Or can this board just not go a few months without slamming a major religion....

I agree with you 100%. It'a amazing how the media hypes up ND and Joe Public eats it up like a hobo on a ham sandwich.

ND is a slightly above mediocre, IMO. Willingham pulled the same thing in his first season winning something like the first 8 games.

This is just a marketing hype from NBC who dished out 100million to ND for a rights to broadcast games. rolleyes.gif

Sorry... take out Catholics on the first statement one and just insert the word Yankees. ND is the NY Yankees of College Football. They win some games, and they are hyped to hell if they show any signs of being decent. That annoys the hell out of me.

And the second reference was complimenting the Catholic church. They wouldn't let the coaches go out on the field in sumo-attire if they were going to wrestle -- and frankly, I think that's a good thing. Or would you rather see Charlie Weiss and Phil Fulmer scantily clad? <Vomits>

      The Answer is Marketing....

      Milestone Electric had $80 million in revenue in 2020 and $150 million in 2022. This per The Successful Contractor podcast which the owner was on in 2020 and 2022. To the original topic, winning cures all for sure. Something I wonder is if recent college graduates are working more on the weekends than previous generations. Either way, we need consistent high-level winning. My kids know UNT. I'm sure everybody else here has raised their kids around UNT. How many alumni were raised as fans of traditional power programs and will raise their kids as such despite going to UNT themselves? Have a few 10+ win seasons and maybe lifelong fans will be made of our current students. One things for sure, you can't have 1 bowl win in 20 years and zero 10+ win seasons in your history and expect people to care. The program needs better results on a consistent basis.

      I wonder if he'd convert to WR. We've seen an increasing number of vertically challenged QBs in the NFL these past few years though so maybe he can stay at QB. I think he'll get looks regardless.

      "Where Are The Fans?"

      Haven’t seen this mentioned, but once again…… We started the season out pretty well. Got some local and national attention, to the point we were a trendy pick. “Tech better watch out!” Reece Davis on ESPN Game Day picked us as his “superdog”. We were starting to turn a corner regarding perception. And not only do we get beat, we got absolutely destroyed on national TV. Outclassed, out coached, out played and embarrassed. We were taking a few steps forward only to get hit in the face ONCE AGAIN and get launched back to what many think is our rightful place. How many people paying attention to our game vs TTech didn’t even bother to look at the schedule to see our next games much less make plans to show up. This probably happened about halfway through the 2nd quarter of that game. We are in a situation where we have no room for error. When you’re in this situation, no amount of marketing can overcome getting embarrassed like we were in Lubbock. We had our chance. Blew it. so this comment from the article: “He’s held up his end of the bargain.” depends on the lens we use and the standard we apply. if we use the standard of “holy crap it’s a miracle we’re 4-1 and we never do this” then Yes, he’s held up his end of the bargain. And yes. This start is the exception not the norm. But if we want the casual fans to show up, that standard won’t work. So if we use the standard of “we need to be ranked or pushing the top 25 and knocking on the door of the playoff. Getting national attention getting national credibility” which WILL get the casual fan to show up, then Eric Morris’s performance in Lubbock means he did NOT hold up his end of the bargain. The coach at UNT, whoever it is, cannot have it both ways.
