I think a good way to settle all of this is to keep all BCS, and if there is 4 undefeateds in the top five, then 1 and 3 play, 2 and 4 play, winners play for national championship, everything else remains the same.

First, if there are only 4 teams involved, either selected by computer and/or human poll, it is still not a true championship. It is popularity, not fact. Who says the 5th undefeated team couldn't have beaten them all?

Invite all 1-A conference winners, plus at-large teams (that's where you can use the polls, computers, etc.) = 16 total. Then have a true playoff and determine the champ on the field. Equal access must be the key and with all conferences allowed at least one entry all teams then have access.

This is perhaps my favorite quote since I currently work in customer service:

Perception is Reality

To which I reply:

If perception is reality, $1's would be $100 bills.

The only way to truly gauge a team's strength of schedule is where the teams they play end up when all is said and done.  This takes into account not only their losses to higher ranked teams in their conference but also losses to the rest of their schedule.

That is my original point, you have to wait to see how it all plays out when the season is over. Your formula to find the average ranking is using the current rankings of Fla St. and Miami, If you want to take an average of opponents rankings, wait till after the games are done.

Rankings are still an artificial winner. A playoff is the only true determiner of a championship.

Funny, that's what UVA said about VaTech before Frank Beamer.

No, at the time Beamer started over there, Virginia's program was just emerging from total joke status, and since then, but for the first half of the 1990 season, we have unfortunately never been in much of a position to look very far down on anyone. Two years ago, we ran away from the Hokies, but they pack a whallop now. Can you imagine suffering through Vick 1 and then now there is Vick 2?

Have you seen the rest of VaTech's schedule? Didn't think so.

And you would be wrong.

It all amounts to a hill of beans, because until the season is over, it's impossible to tell what's going to happen--which is why speculation like this is pointless until the games have been played.
