let's just be content in being second rate for the rest of our lives. some of you seriously blow my mind. no matter what Dickey says, and he says it a lot...this has to be one of the easiest places to coach in the country. we get beat by 53 points and our fans are saying, wow look at the improvement. 53 points? i can't believe we are even having this conversation

you can praise a 50 point loss as devine too and hide the fact that any other school fans would be embarrassed.  wake up people.

There are alot of things that should shame our fans. North Texas fans have always 1) been cheap and 2) looking for a quick fix.

Chances are the people reading this board give what they can to the program. Chances are the % of alumni that do that is near or at the bottom for all Texas 1A

schools.

I agree with this, seems like lately the attitude has been if we as fans all hold hands and DEMAND better, an OOC win will manifest itself simply because we as fans DEMANDED it.

Well, maybe if we DEMAND a better showing in our OOC games, perhaps the university will FIND a coach that can get us there, because I, for one, am unimpressed with ANY 50 point loss, regardless of the team or how well we played. But then again, I didnt go to the game, nor have I ever played or coached football on a collegiate level, so what do I know... back to my cave

And yet still, how does a fan with Green Tinted glasses on affect the on-field product? How does a fire DD fan affect the on-field product?

Alums with lots of $$$ have pull (i.e. Mr Mattress Mac), what Joe Blow GMG fan thinks has ZERO to do with touchdowns or spreads or draw plays.

I think Coach Dickey does a good job for the investment we put into the program. I am not convicned that he is the man for the job if/when the school and alumni seriously raise our commitment. If we can raise our commitment to levels to attract a better coach, then so be it.

Let us be frank. As a football program we have not been at this level of success since Coach Fry's tenure. The current coach is doing it with a have/have-not gulf that is larger than ever. Baylor is given 13 million dollars, more than out entire budget, every year, from the BCS payout. That does not count Big 12 payouts. If you look at programs that are "at our level" you will that for the most part we consistently beat schools that we have more support than, and conistently lose to program we have less support than. Tulsa has season ticket and athletic endowment numers that shame ours. They have under performed for several years but are just now getting back what they put in.

And that is the very essence of why message boards are pointless - but since we are all still here and all still fired up to debate, maybe we can all continue posting knowing that most of what is said here will not affect anything at all.

That is correct.

Message boards are not pointless.  I have met 1,000's of people from this board and it's given most of us a chance to combine our efforts towards doing a lot of good for NT, which is precisely the point.

Rick,

My reply was made in sarcasm - times like this I wish there was a sarcasm font.

I think the only statement that you needed in that whole post was "Let us be frank. As a football program we have not been at this level of success since Coach Fry's tenure." Obviously some of us are clinging to the glory days of the 90's when things like this would have never happened. dry.gif Many of us think that if we just write the words "higher expectations" and "unacceptable" on a message board enough times that RV or the BOR will read it and say "yeah, let's fire the coach with more conference titles than any other in our history, more bowl trips than the rest combined, and who has brought national attention to the school like at no other time." Then they'll tell you how schools like Southern Miss or Boise State or Memphis would never accept the slow building process that is necessary at North Texas. They'll conveniently forget the advantages that these schools have ACROSS THE BOARD and will simply chant "50 points is a whole lot, cuz I can count that high" ad nauseum until you are beaten into submission and have to admit that, yes, you too don't like being beaten by a lot...as if this is a revelation and they're getting you to admit a deeply held secret.

Here, I'll get us a new coach in no time flat:

There you have it. If you'll just drive down to Denton right now you'll find decades of neglect by past athletic directors and chancellors reversed. You'll find a new shiny stadium sitting at the intersection of two major highways. And you'll find that Pete Carroll has decided he just couldn't go another day without coaching in Denton. Wow! And some people don't believe in magic? laugh.gif

This was my first look at the Mean Green this season. Until yesterday I had only listened to them on the radio.

Gotta be honest folks, I have seen a Mean Green team look worse. I mean, outside of getting into the endzone I was pleased with the way we moved on the vaunted top 10 team. I was expecting Meager to look like a QB from South Garland (insert program here) vs the Dallas Cowboys. He was not the Monster I was expecting to see at all. The line played okay opening some holes and overall I left the bar encouraged about the final 4 games.

It's Dickey Time!

The March for Lafayette begins with a march on Lafayette this Saturday!

GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. - The bar owner set me up with a TV and table - had the pizza and beer flowing (of course it was 2 freaking pm). The only drawback was the obnoxious Texas fans next to me and their comeback. They are there every weekend and even bring cowbells - pretty dramatic. One biker asked me how I could continue watching the Green get killed. I told him it was mi corazon - my team. I am Green through and through. GMG

Belittling people is an excellent way to make your point, Emmitt smile.gif

So let me ask you, at what point would it be acceptable to raise our level of expectation? When should I/we start to expect us to at least be COMPETITIVE in our non-conference games?

I can appreciate differing opinions- thats the beauty of a board like this... just trying to wrap my can't-quite-count-to-fifty mind around the thought process that lies beneath the sarcasm... biggrin.gif

NMG, with your permission, I highlighted the part of your post I really liked.

WE need more alums like NM Green who will stand up for the Mean Green instead of cowering down like a whooped dog, folding the tents, offering non-stop "what all our problems are at NT" w/o any viable solutions (except trying to fill a position that is not vacant) and then doing the T2SFRF, you know, the "Texas 2-Step Front-Running Fan" routine of becoming most visible Horn or Aggie fans all of a sudden. (Never have been able to understand that phenomena when such fans who graduated from other Texas colleges and universities never attended either school in College Station or Austin). blink.gif

Now you who have kids who attended our 2 flagship schools have many reasons to support either because much of your hard-earned monies probably ended up in College Station or Austin, but those with no connection to either one has to question such support. unsure.gif
