goals have to be higher, there are 10 "winnable" games on the schedule next year, with Tulsa, SMU, and Louisiana Tech on the out of conference schedule. Not saying we will win them, but they certainly winnable games.

Why on earth would any of our fans be happy with losing to tulsa, SMU, La. Tech or any other non-BCS teams???

We should be able to compete and/or win against every Non-BCS team in the country and the bottom fifth of BCS teams.

It would be pathetic to except a 1-3 OOC record again only to cruise thru the CrapBelt again.

Me too IF we WIN against SMU w/o that WIN the season is a TOTAL loss no matter what we do otherwise. It has to be played like the MUST WIN game that it is!!!!! dry.gif

W/O a win over SMU the season is a total loss? ph34r.gif Apparently you have some associates/acquaintances that would make your life miserable with a loss. rolleyes.gif I want a win over SMU also, but to say the season would be a total loss without it is a pretty big stretch.

If the purpose of this is to say that dropping all of our OOC, including SMU, would make the season a total loss that is correct. SMU would have just jumped 6 pegs above us in recruiting, along with UTEP, TCU and every other Texas college (except Rice...maybe!) Why play for NT for free when you can get paid to play for a better team (or did SMU stop doing that?)

Now if we lost to SMU but won some of those other games, all is not lost - but to drop another OOC stinker and have SMU beat us would be the final blow to the house of cards many have built us into.

(ALL ABOVE COMMENTS ARE BASED ON THE HYPOTHETICAL! I do not mean we are a farse and our success is not great, but if this pattern continues into next year, everyone owes it to themselves to start questioning this program - but I don't think the sky is falling - I mainly just like to stick to posting stats and letting the board interpret them.)

Get pumped for the Tulsa/NT rematch in the Bourbon Bowl!

Beating SMU isnt anything special. A lot of teams have done that the past 5 years. Winning the Sunbelt is kind of the same thing. Everyone beats sun belt teams.

I would be content splitting the OOC games (inevitable loss to Texas and then dropping a close one with La Tech/Tulsa) and I EXPECT to win the Sun Belt...again. In fact, Im rather embarrased we even lost a game in the conference.

I really think we have a legitimate shot at a 9-2 season next year. Anything less than 8-3 will be a big disappointment for me.

I'd also like to score a touchdown against Texas and maybe sustain a couple drives. That would be great...92-0 is kind of embarrasing.

Is this thread serious? We've won TWO games, (and I'll probably be able to still say that on Sunday) and ya'll are on here talking about 9 - 2 next year? Damn... It's time to put down the green crack pipe, and take a few steps back everyone.

Hmm...I bet the TCU fans would agree with you. But....where would TCU be right now if they had beaten SMU???

I forgot to answer the poll question. Well...let's just say that I don't accept it this year.

Winning the Belt and going to a bowl game is nice, but damnit...I want MORE. I want to be competitive in OOC games against Top 25 teams. I want to beat the mid-major schools and gain some national respect as a decent football team rather than simply being the best of the worst. It's sort of like being the smartest kid in Special Ed.

This week's Sagarin ratings list the top SBC school as #124. There are only 119 D-I schools so that is a HORRIBLE reflection of our conference IMHO. I challenge UNT, and the SBC as a whole, to step it up a notch and start making some drastic improvements ON the field.

SMU is a "catch 22" for us. if we beat them, everyone will say we should have. if they beat us, everyone will say the sky is falling and i would agree. we have to win the SMU game, if we don't it will set this program back a few years. being content if we don't beat Tulsa or LA Tech? then again, some of you do make an excuse for Dickey about everything. just for future reference....are we still a young team next year? just wanted to make sure that excuse was still useable.

It's my wish someday that everyone who has never experienced the exhileration of watching a Mean Green team upset one of the big boys in their house, gets the chance to do so. It's why the win over Tennessee and those games against Texas and Tech in '88 are still remembered by those of us who were there. Folks from Troy nearly got to know what it's like last season against LSU, then did see it, although it was in their own stadium against Mizzou. It's like nothing you can imagine and it's what drives so many to fanaticalism. Is that a word?
