Further supplement to this based on offensive and defensive performance in each OOC game in the NO Bowl era. I Figure averages are comparable since we usually play the same type of teams each year in OOC play.

Not really sure what it means or what my point for posting even is, but thought it might show what we've been doing good and bad the last few years (for the record, we've won 3 of these games and outgained our opponent 5 times in 27 games.) Draw your own conclusions...

Just another great example of how piss poor the Sun Belt is. Someone will have to check me on this stat, but I think in the last four years, there has only been one other Sun Belt team that finished the season with a winning record, and that was Troy State last season. If that is in fact correct, that is PATHETIC.

According to those numbers we have been slipping since Gary DeLoach left after the 2002 season. Just what I get out of the those stats.

Yes the striking thing is that the defense is going down hill from where we are. But the offense, as bad as it is this year, is only 70 or so yards on average, behind our BEST non-conference average during this "run."

5 years of non-conference and our BEST offense averaged 270 yards against non-conference?

Thanks for the insight, Michael Scott.

Well, we now start the JV portion of the schedule.

A bit more follow up to show that it at least has improved since the Big West days; although this years 195.75 is the worst of the bunch. I don't know if we have really made any huge strides, as 2 national rushing champions should make more than a 70-80 yard difference.

(I could not find 2000 box scores)

1999 OOC

UNLV: 293 yds them, 261 us

LSU: 514 yds them, 132 us

Texas Tech: 393 them, 246 us

Baylor: 393 them, 179 us

TCU: 391 them, 164 us

TOTAL: 1984 them, 982 us (396.8 to 196.4)

1998 OOC:

Oklahoma: 403 them, 139 us

Texas Tech: 528 them, 125 us

Arizona State: 433 them, 373 us

Texas A&M: 432 them, 226 us

Houston: 353 them, 268 us

Kansas: 298 them, 204 us

TOTAL: 2447 them, 1335 (407.83 to 222.5)

Oh and by the way, the MUTS in 2001 (8-3) and NMSU in 2002 (7-5) had winning records. Not much, but lets not short change anything in the belt

Oh, so there is a reality thread on the board today. I was beginning to think I was supposed to feel good about losing by 53 again. Is progress really defined by ALMOST scoring A touchdown? We ONLY gave up 28 points in each half?

The truly sad thing is that I think we will win out and go to the Cajun Bowl again. That's not a statement on our "progress", but I don't think there is a team in the Belt that has the gumption to stand up and take it away from us. Then we'll hear the DD "us vs. the world" speech again, and everything will be OK in Mean Green Land. Forever into perpetual mediocraty...........

  Forever into perpetual mediocraty...........

Hammer, nail, hit it on the head.

Don't be surprised if you hear the classic rebuttal, "You guys have no idea how bad NT football was before. You forget where we came from." rolleyes.gif
